Mother's Day is fast approaching on Sunday, May 8, which means it's time to start the search for the perfect gift for mom. Mother's Day is a great day to show your mother how much she is appreciated and loved, so finding a gift she'll use is a must. Here are nine Mother's Day gift ideas.

1. Get her the latest facial.

The trendiest new spa treatments of 2016 include the Liquid Oxygen Facial, which delivers oxygen below the surface of the skin resulting in hydrated skin, and the Plant Stem Cell Facial, which detoxifies the skin cells, fights free radical damage and stimulates DNA repair while boosting hydration and improving the health and quality of the skin. If she isn't into spas, you probably can't go wrong with a massage, yoga class, manicure, or blowout either! Give her a relaxing day she won't forget.

2. Hire her a personal assistant for a day.

A mother's job isn't always easy. Take a load off her back by hiring her a personal assistant to help with everyday activities and organization! Especially if mom works, this will be a great thing for her to have. Try hiring someone for two hours a week for a month or for one full day. I guarantee your mom will get those things that she's been putting off done, and she'll thank you.

3. Plan a surprise day of activities for her.

Whether it's a road trip, a day of antiquing, a fun brunch somewhere trendy, or a museum visit, spending the day with your mom is sure to be a gift she'll love best!

4. Get her a gardening kit.

For the mom who talks about gardening but hasn't actually started, consider getting her this cute indoor, at-home gardening starter kit with fresh herbs and spices! Link here.

5. Get her a gift certificate for dinner at her favorite restaurant.

Splurging for a meal at her favorite restaurant isn't something she might normally do for herself. So sending mom (and dad or anyone else she wants to bring) for a night out is sure to be a hit.

6. Surprise her with concert tickets for a band she loves.

Surprise her with tickets to her favorite band from way back. 70s and 80s bands are on tour all the time. If you're in the New York City area, Billy Joel performs monthly at the Garden—and who doesn't love him?

7. Sign her up for a class she'll like.

It could be an art class, a cooking class, a writing workshop—you name it! Find out what she's been hoping to explore and get her an intro class to try it out.

8. Take her on a shopping spree.

Taking your mom to some of her favorite stores in the mall and for frozen yogurt is a fun Mother's Day outing. Alternatively, get her a personal shopper or a stylist for a day to spice up her wardrobe.

9. Explore with her on a hike or a nature walk.

A relaxing walk in a nature center followed by a vegan meal or a smoothie is always a nice way to spend time with your mother in a serene setting.

Moms love spending time with their kids, no matter how old you (or they) are. So instead of just sending a bouquet of flowers, spend some quality time with the lady who started it all. Happy Mother's Day!

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
