Picture this: you stayed up until 3:00 a.m. studying for a test. You have a long, busy day ahead of you, much of which includes events where you should probably wear something other than sweats and a hoodie. Alas, you pressed the snooze button about ten times and now you only have about thirty minutes to leave for school.
Let’s all agree that college is not like high school; dress codes are basically nonexistent and everyone is in comfort clothing a good portion of the time. Whether you like dressing up every day and also like sleep or you don’t care to dress up but also like sleep, there are still going to be a lot of times where you’ll have to wear more than a t-shirt and yoga pants during the day and you just won’t want to wake up super early to doll yourself up. Have no fear, I’m here to throw some tips and tricks your way so that you can reap the benefits of putting in the effort without actually putting in the effort. Here’s how to make it look like you took the time to get ready before leaving for class every morning.
1. Shower and shave the night before.
Okay, so this tip does take effort, but it’s the kind of effort that you do before you go to bed. It may still take you twenty minutes, but it will be much easier to stay up a little later to shower than it will be to wake up early for a shower. Trust me.
2. Better yet, just use dry shampoo.
If you can afford to skip the shower for a day, then just spray some dry shampoo into your hair. It takes literally ten seconds.
3. Pick your outfit the night before.
This is also a tip that requires effort, but it will save you lots of time to wake up and already have your clothes picked out.
4. Didn't pick your outfit the night before? Just wear a dress.
Why waste time picking out two or three articles of clothing when you can just slip on a dress and a pair of boots and call it a day?
5. Cut your makeup routine in half. Or more than half.
Focus only on the stuff that you think you absolutely need. I personally skip concealer, eyeshadow, eyeliner, and sometimes my entire foundation routine if I’m running a little late. Everyone is different.
6. Throw on some accessories.
The accessories you choose will, of course, depend on the weather. If it’s warmer, go for jewelry. If it’s colder, go for a scarf and leg warmers. Simple accessories to give your outfit layers will make it look like you put in the time to look nice, even if you slept in for an hour.
7. Roll up your skinny jeans.
If your shoes don’t go past your ankles and you’re wearing skinny jeans, roll them up. Something about rolling your jeans up just a little bit has become somewhat of a trend, and it looks nice.
8. Wear a bright lipstick color.
You don’t even need the rest of your makeup to be fancy for this one. You could cut everything out except for foundation, eyebrows, and mascara, and you’d still look like you put in a ton of effort if your lipstick was a bright color.
9. Slip on a jean jacket.
Layers make an outfit look nice. Jean jackets are making a comeback and pairing one with your outfit will have you looking put together in no time!
There are probably one hundred million other tips that I’m missing here, but these first nine are a pretty good start if I do say so myself. With these fashion hacks, you’ll be able to hit the snooze button a few times and still be able to make it to class ready for a presentation or school event.
