Do you ever look around at all you have and realize how fortunate you are? If you have never had to worry whether or not you will be able to have food, clean water, soap or even school supplies, than you are much more fortunate than many other people on this planet.

This realization can often leave one feeling pretty remorseful for being so privileged while others have so little; thus, this realization can also lead to the desire to give to those less fortunate. If you are one of those that wishes to give back but is unsure of how to do so, fear not: there are a wide variety of companies that will give to those less fortunate on behalf of you when you purchase items. The most well known example of this TOMS, with their famous One for One promise; however, there are so many more companies with very similar missions that are lesser known, including the following:

1. Sudara

Sudara's mission is to give women training and jobs, as well as housing and education for both the women and their children; according to Sudara, “both are essential to creating a pathway for women to escape from sexual slavery and live in freedom." Products sold by Sudara include tops, shorts, robes, temporary tattoos and “PUNJAMMIES" (lounge pants). Their website can be found here.

2. Vibes

With earplugs that lower the decibel levels of your environment, Vibes offers three models of earplugs: open ear, foam earplugs, and custom earplugs. Vibes has also partnered with Hear The World Foundation, so each purchase helps to “fund projects that provide hearing aids, funding or educating to those in need around the world." Their website can be found here.

3. Alex and Ani

With the Charity by Design collection, a portion of each purchase provides funding for different organizations; the organization that the donation is made to depends on the accessory that you purchase. Organizations that receive benefit include the American Cancer Society, Big Brothers Big Sisters Of America, The National Network To End Domestic Violence and UNICEF (among many others). The collection can be found here.

4. Ivory Ella

This company sells clothing of all types (shirts, shorts, pants, hats and outerwear), as well as jewelry, drink ware, bags and pins – all featuring an animated elephant. This is because 10% of the net profits of Ivory Ella are donated to Save the Elephants, an organization operating out of Samburu, Kenya; Save the Elephants works to reverse the declining elephant population and fight elephant poaching. Their website can be found here.

5. WakaWaka

With the slogan “share the sun," WakaWaka sells solar-powered LED flashlights and portable chargers, as well as waterproof pouches. With every purchase, WakaWaka gives a second flashlight or charger “to send to someone living through a humanitarian crisis." Those benefited include survivors of natural disasters in Haiti, Nepal and the Philippines, as well as “families displaced by war and strife." Their website can be found here.

6. Hand in Hand

Selling bars of soaps, candles, lip balms, liquid hand soap, lotion and other bathing products, Hand in Hand is another company with a one for one purchase model. According to Hand in Hand, “for every product purchased, Hand in Hand donates one bar of soap and one month of clean water to a child in need [in the developing world]." Their website can be found here.

7. Yoobi

Another business with a one for one model, Yoobi sells school and offices supplies, including games, notebooks, pens, pencils and supplies organizers. The word Yoobi means “one for you, one for me;" thus, with every Yoobi item purchased, a second one will be donated to a U.S. classroom in need. Their website can be found here.

8. Project 7

Project 7 makes organic gummy bears, gum and snack clusters; sugar-free alternatives are also available. This company uses profits to give back to seven areas of need by taking action: helping to plant trees, providing emergency relief as a result of natural disaster, providing meals in U.S. communities, giving clean drinking water to those in need, delivering malaria treatments to those in need, providing daily school education in developing nations and putting students through anti-bullying programs. Their website can be found here.

9. Love Your Melon

This company offers a variety of headwear, as well as jewelry, bags, phone cases, cups, shirts and pants. With its profits, Love Your Melon donates to the field of pediatric oncology to “fund cancer research and provide immediate support for families of children battling cancer." Their website can be found here.

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
