Every now and then, a rainy day comes along and there's nothing better to do than stay inside and binge a few movies that are good for the soul. Everyone knows there's nothing better than a classic '80s film, so here a few that will certainly make any rainy day one for the books.
1. "Sixteen Candles"
This classic tells the tale of an angst-ridden Samantha (Molly Ringwald) and her forgotten 16th birthday. Hilarious characters like Long Duck Dong and Ted (Anthony Michael Hall's character) keep up the comedic pace with their unpredictable demeanors. However, we all know everyone watches the film for Jake Ryan.
2. "Pretty In Pink"
Again, the '80s queen Molly Ringwald comes into play with co-star Jon Cryer. Of course Ringwald's character is an outcast in her high school, but quickly becomes entangled in some social circle drama when one of the popular, rich, guys asks her out. Heartwarming, this film depicts the age-old teenage dilemma of high school cliques. Definitely a must-watch.
3. "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"
This film contains spontaneous dance breaks, famous and very relatable quotes and an amazing cast. Really, all you need in a film, period. Whether it's the overly suspicious principal, Jeannie's (Jennifer Gray) determination, or Cameron's sheer panic and anxiety of his best friend's antics, this classic will never die.
4. "Stand By Me"
During the summer of 1959, four friends embarked on a a journey to find the body of a missing boy. This film is emotional, nostalgic and compassionate, containing actors that deliver equally unforgettable performances. These brilliant child actors came together to create such a real tribute to, "growing up," and have ultimately become a large part of our American film culture.
5. "Footloose"
Everybody has seen this movie, or at least the remake. Kevin Bacon pulls some serious moves with some new pals in a freakishly conservative town. If you haven't seen it, this movie is definitely a go-to anytime. If you've already seen it, watching it again to see Kevin Bacon in that red suit is totally OK too.
6. "National Lampoon's Vacation"
Chevy Chase plays Clark Griswold in the start of the, "National Lampoon's Vacation," series. In an attempt tog get closer to his family Griswold decides to take his family and drive across the country to Wally World. Raunchy, unpredictable, and downright hilarious. This film will definitely be a favorite.
7. "Heathers"
Winona Ryder and co-star Christian Slater make a big statement in this dark, quirky, satire of the '80s teen movie. John Hughes, again, created a film depicting high school social cliques and the darker subject of teen suicide. This film was revolutionary for its truthful uncovering of the angst behind the teenage central dilemma of popularity, love, depression, and being outcasted.
8. "Risky Business
Everyone knows this film for the famous Tom Cruise in his boxers dancing to rock n' roll scene. That historic scene is just one in many amazing moments within this film. Cruise having his teenage home to himself never made for a better adventure.
9. "The Breakfast Club"
Another film directed by John Hughes staring our favorites such as Molly Ringwald, Anthony Michael Hall and Judd Nelson. Everyone knows the story: a criminal, a brain, and athlete, a basket case and a princess, are all forced together in detention for one day. This story goes deep and depicts serious issues that many teenagers deal with. This film is probably the most important on the list and seriously deserves the attention.
10. "Better Off Dead"
Personally, this is my favorite on the list. John Cusack gets dumped by his girlfriend and decides to enter a locally famous ski challenge in an attempt to win her back. This movie has the strangest plot line, weirdest characters and unforgettable dialogue. This is a film you will be watching over and over, guaranteed.
