Most of us can relate to the "broke college student life." Even if that's not the case for you, who wouldn't appreciate having a little extra pocket change once in a while? Summer is the perfect time to make a little money before school starts, especially since classes are out and those long summer days need to be filled somehow. I'm not saying these ideas will make you rich, but it'll certainly get you a little more money than you already had!
1. Start an Etsy Shop
If you like crafting or are a talented artist, try putting your items up for sale on Etsy. You can set your own price, make custom orders for people, and sell a wide variety of handmade items.
2. Sell things on Ebay
We all know you've got that one pile of clothing in the back of your closet that you never wear. Dig up some of your old stuff that you don't need, it doesn't even need to be clothing. Ebay has worked very well for me, and is something I continue to do on the side.
3. Get a part time job
A good way to make money is through an actual job. Check around your town, maybe you can pick up a couple of hours working as a waitress, or scooping ice cream at an ice cream shop.
4. Babysit
Babysitting for your siblings and cousins is fun, so why not get paid for it? Get the word around that you're open to babysit for friends, family, or friends of friends. Sign up on Care.com to find some people in need of a babysitter, as well.
5. Be a dog walker/petsitter
Put up fliers around your neighborhood, or spread the word through friends and family. People have busy schedules and don't always have time to give their dogs the exercise they need. Lots of people would be willing to pay for having someone walk their dog or take care of their pets while they're away on vacation!
6. Have a garage sale
Ask your parents if they have any extra stuff laying around that they want to get rid of. Grab some friends, pool some stuff together and have your own garage sale in your yard. Don't forget to make some signs to hang around the neighborhood to grab people's attention, because who doesn't love a summer garage sale?
7. Tutor
If you're knowledgable in a certain subject, share it with others. There are plenty of places to apply online or if one of your friends is struggling. In college towns, put up flyers with your service and email for others to contact you.
8. Offer to help out around the house
Ask your family or friends if they need help moving things, mowing the lawn, cleaning out the garage, or any errands they may need done but have no time for. Who knows, they just might pay you for your help!
