8 Things You and Your Long Distant Best Friend Know To Be True

Everyone has a best friend. One that you meet in your home town, whether at school or a club activity, and you connect right away. You become inseparable. However, sometimes that best friend, moves away. Either to a new house because of family reasons, or simply just to go to college. The both of you know that friendships as strong as these won't disappear no matter what. Which is the best part! Because no matter where they end up, you both will make it work. Basically, soul mates.

1. Even if you don't text everyday, you know the second you do, they will respond in seconds.

Life gets busy. REALLY busy. For both of you. That means you both don't get to talk as often as you did when you were together. The good news is, when one of you texts the other about something random that happened in your day, even if they don't know who you're talking about, they will answer with the best comeback you will ever imagine. Which makes you love them even more.

2. You both have interesting stories to share each day and the conversations never get old.

One day, something crazy might've happened at school for you, then your best friend might've had something happen that was completely different. Your conversations never get old because there's always something new to talk about since you live in different states or countries.

3. The surprise gifts are endless

Of course gifts aren't what matters most, but for special occasions (birthdays, christmas, etc.) You both get creative with what you're giving because you want it to have a sentimental value for your friend to have while they're away.

4. You get to travel more.

I don't mean travel the world, but you get to explore a different part of the country where they live when you go to visit them! You get to see all the historical land marks in they're town and see what they do for fun.

5. Surprise visits are ALWAYS the best.

It's always a coincidence that when you need them the most, is when they decide to surprise you with a visit. It may not be a screaming, jumping on them moment, but it will matter more to you than anyone will ever know.

6. When they come to visit, that is the most you will ever get out of the house.

We all usually just sit at home on a daily basis, unless there's something we have to do. But when the best friend comes into town, you know you will be out of your house from 8 am, to 8 pm and there will be no regrets the next day when you do it all over again.

7. They teach you life lessons that they've learned from being in a different state, and by themselves.

For every situation that I don't know how to handle, my best friend always has a solution. The reason she does, is because she's most likely experienced the same thing or situation out where she lives, and overcame it herself. Some of the best advice I've ever gotten is from her. I also help when she needs advice along the way with what I've learned.

8. Nothing will compare to the feeling you get when you see each other after a long period of time.

Your best friend will forever be your best friend. Going long periods without seeing one another, takes a toll emotionally. You begin to miss them beyond compare. But the second you see them in the airport, or surprise them in their house, it is a tear session. You feel complete again, and don't ever want them to leave your side.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
