8 Things To Never Say To A Mixed Race Person

If I got a dollar every time someone asked me a stupid question about my race, I would be as rich as Donald Trump.

Being mixed race is hard enough as it is and, to top it off, you still have to deal with ignorant people and their stupid questions. It took me a while to fully realize that people are really unaware of how diverse this country is. I am half black and half Indian and if I got a dollar every time someone asked me a stupid question about my race, I would be as rich as Donald Trump. So, let's begin the list of things you should never say to a mixed race person!

1. "Wow I've never heard of that combination! You're so pretty!"

Really, girl? It's not like I'm the only person in the world whose both mixed with these races. Stop acting like you discovered a new dinosaur bone.

2. "You look more like [insert race] than you do [insert race]."

I think what you mean to say is that I look more like my father than my mother. If your mother is full white and your dad is full black than you are 50 percent of each. No more no less.

3. "You have such interesting hair!"

I don't know whats so interesting about it. It's hair, it covers your head, that is it.

4. "Good thing you don't have to wear one of those weaves!"

HELLL NOOOO. First of all, there is nothing wrong with wearing weaves because again, it's just hair, second of all if I want to wear a weave regardless of my hair texture, I will wear a weave and what are you going to say about it? Don't EVER tell a black girl that she's "lucky" she didn't get "black girl hair" because she's mixed. It's racist AF!

5. "That's your mom? Who would have thought she was into [insert race] men!"

Honey, don't talk about parents like they're some kind of freaks because at the end of the day, they are both human beings and they are attracted to each other. THAT IS ALL!

6. "Imagine what your children would look like if you married an [insert race] man."

First of all, they would be cute as hell because I'm their mother and second of all please stop acting like we are some type of weird exotic creatures because at the end of the day, we are all human beings.

7. "The boys must love you, a lot of them are into mixed girls."

Being mixed should have nothing to do with whether or not a guy likes you and if it does than he's an idiot.

8. "You don't act like your [insert race]."

This is probably the worst thing you can ever say to a mixed race person. You can't "act" like a race! It's just not possible.

In conclusion, don't ask me or anyone else these types of questions. Thank you!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Whether you met your new love interest online, through mutual friends, or another way entirely, you'll definitely want to know what you're getting into. I mean, really, what's the point in entering a relationship with someone if you don't know whether or not you're compatible on a very basic level?

Consider these 21 questions to ask in the talking stage when getting to know that new guy or girl you just started talking to:

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
