I was in middle school when I met three girls who I never thought would impact my life the way that they have today. Had I not opened up and gotten to know them, I would never have known that they were exactly what I needed to get through many trials and tribulations that life has thrown at me. In honor of these very special girls, here are some traits that an ideal best friend should possess:
Compassionate
Something I love about my best friends is that they are totally sensitive to situations occurring in my life as well as one another's! Through thick and thin, I can count on them to be there as my shoulder to cry on or my ear to vent to.
Honest
A best friend has to be honest. Not only about big things but the little things too! Like telling you when you're not making the right choices like wearing fall colors during the spring. Tragic.
Funny
Your best friend has to be able to make you laugh! Laughing really is the best medicine. Your best friend should know exactly what to say to make you laugh whether it's the retelling of old stories from that PCB roadtrip or something simple like tagging you in a post you might like on Facebook.
Goofy
As I said above, your best friend should know what makes you laugh, but mine specifically, don't struggle with that because we're all goofy! We laugh at basically everything. What's even worse is laughing in a situation where you shouldn't at all. Those are the worst! And being with your goofy best friend doesn't make it any better.
Accepting
This is one of the more important traits. As human beings, we are always changing. A best friend should be accepting of you whether you're questioning your major in college or something more serious. I know no matter what I do, I'll have at least 3 people supporting me every step of the way.
Motivating
Your best friends have to motivate you to do your very best at everything you approach. Trying out for a sport. Writing a paper. Studying for an exam. Talking to that cute guy you saw at the dining hall. *Wink Wink*
Smart
I am a believer that everyone has the ability to achieve greatness. I just believe that not everyone takes advantage of this! Your bestfriends should be smart enough to get sh*t done and, as the trait above says, motivate you to do the same!
Loyal
The most important one of all.. A best friend must be loyal. How can I expect to open up to you, vent to you, laugh with you, if you can't respect me enough to be loyal and discreet? Loyalty is what makes my best friends, my best friends.
But all in all, my best friends, in some way or another, possess all these traits.
So as one Vine superstar once said:
Go best friend(s), that's my best friend(s), that's my best friend(s).
