Words. We all use them. In fact, the average woman speaks about 20,000 words in just one day. If you're anything like me, then you probably use even more than that. Even though we all use them frequently, we tend to use them for meaningless conversations. Small talk can be necessary at times, but right now it feels like we are heading toward a culture that is content with keeping things at the surface level. All of our conversations have to be in-depth and groundbreaking revelations. But there are a few things that we should all try to say a little more often.
8. Thank you
Unfortunately, it seems to be human nature to spend more time jealous of the things we don't have rather than being grateful for the things we do. Thanksgiving isn't the only day of the year that we should realize all the great things we have. Taking the time to be thankful for the people and the things we have in our lives will naturally make us happier. It's also good to remember how great it makes you feel when someone reminds you that you're appreciated. So let's all spread the love and the thankfulness around a little more.
7. Remember when...
It is also typical for us to think solely about where we want to go and therefore forgetting where we came from. Your roots are a part of who you are and that's something we shouldn't forget. No matter what your childhood was like, it is undoubtedly a part of how you became the person you are today. Remember your good times because they make you smile. But also remember your bad times because it reminds you that you are strong enough to make it through anything. You did it once, so you can do it again.
6. I hope that...
Although it is important to remember where you came from, it is also important to know where you want to go. Hope is a very special and powerful thing. If you have hope, you can do just about anything. Believing you can accomplish your goals is half the battle. So not only should you have hope for yourself, but you should spread that hope to others. Love and support are important to reaching big things, but it's hope that ultimately gets it done. It's the strength to be patient and keep the faith that great things are still to come. And that is something we all need a little more of.
5. It's all going to be okay
Bad times and bad things happen to us all. But we have to remind ourselves that it is just a bad time, not a bad life. It's easy to get caught up in all the negatives, but eventually, it will get to the point that it overwhelms us. Mistakes happen and no one is perfect. So whether it's a bad grade on a test, a fight with a boyfriend or girlfriend, or maybe something even more serious, it's important to remember that everything happens for a reason and that it will all be okay.
4. I love you
Just like we all need a little more hope, we most definitely need more love. Nowadays, it seems like people are afraid to use the L word. But you should never be embarrassed or ashamed of loving someone. It doesn't make you weak and it doesn't make you less independent. It takes strength to love someone and to allow yourself to be vulnerable. Letting your guard down and telling someone you love them could lead to getting hurt. But it could also lead to great happiness and part of life is taking that risk.
3. I'm sorry
Admitting to our mistakes takes a lot of maturity. Like I said previously, we all make mistakes. And it is learning from these mistakes that help us move forward. It is often said that people learn more from failures than from successes and I believe that is completely true. Failures force us to try new things and gets us out of our comfort zone. Most importantly, mistakes keep us humble. So we have to take more responsibility for our wrong doings to prevent them from happening again.
2. I forgive you
If it takes maturity to ask for forgiveness, then it takes a whole love of sophistication to give it. Holding a grudge can only make you bitter and it doesn't take back whatever bad thing has happened. If we are all truly seeking happiness, then why do we spend so much time holding onto the things that make us unhappy? We all need to make like Elsa and let it go. The only way to really move forward is to forgive those that have wronged you. You're only holding yourself back at this point.
1. I love myself
Learning to love yourself is one of the hardest, but also most rewarding, things a person can do. It takes courage to become comfortable with the person that you are and to share that confidence with others is even harder. We all look for validation from others a little too much. The truth is, the only person you should be trying to please is yourself. And that doesn't make you selfish, that makes you brave. You have to be bold and confident to go after the things you want and there is nothing wrong with that. The longest relationship that you will have in your life is the one you have with yourself. So why not spend more time and effort making sure that relationship is as strong as it can be? Love yourself and your love for others will only grow stronger, too. And as I said before, the world can never have too much love.
