College. It’s something we see in the movies. It's something glorified in the media. But what is college? What exactly does it mean to live away from your friends and family for the first time? What comes with the reigns being loosened by our parents and all the responsibility is in our hands ? College is something different than what I expected it to be, in moderation at least. So, what exactly is college compared to what we’ve all been shown throughout our younger years?
1.Going to class seems like an option, but it really isn’t...
Finally! Our parents aren’t here to make us get up for school in the dead of winter at 6 a.m. when all we want to do is snuggle in bed for at least 5 more hours, until we realize that skipping classes in college is probably one of the worst things to do. Those i-clicker attendance points add up, people.
2. Skipping assignments because we know the teacher won't email our parents about it.
Except we’ll probably loose any possibility of 4.0 that class and we’ll have to face the wrath of our angry parents at the end of the semester, so it's up to you to decide which you would rather face.
3. Experiencing our entire freshman year without a car.
Some of us are fresh to the license driving scene at this point. Then college comes and we are forced back to the walking days, similar to middle school when nobody we knew had a car and were forced to walk when our parents said no to driving us. Then, as the cold closes in, public transportation becomes a thing and it's honestly something I thought I'd never experience (which is obviously not true… just wait for the real world)
4. We become McLovin in a Superbad way sooner than we expected.
We all love the idea of doing something illegal from time to time, especially in college. Having a fake ID and going to bars/being able to buy our own booze at the campus liquor store was the ultimate rebel move. What more of a thrill can a college student want?
5. Telling yourself you studied enough and going out the night before an exam wont hurt.
There's always more studying to be done, but let's be honest, a few beers never hurt anyone.
6. We come in contact with thousands of different people, some good, some bad, but always a lesson.
College is filled with so many different characters and so many different walks of life. We’re so lucky to experience this fresh out of the little bubbles our high schools tried to contain us in.
7. We find hidden gems and people we would’ve never known if it wasn't for college. These people are now those we can't live without.
I know this is so cheesy of me, but I'm not even embarrassed. College has truly brought to me the most amazing people who have taught me so much. They've seen me at my worst and been by my side when I'm at my best. What more could someone ask for?
8. And let's be honest, none of us knew how to do laundry until that one red sock sneaked into our white pile.
