8 Things Every Only Child Knows To Be True

If you don't have any siblings, this is probably your life.

1. You didn't realize some people are rarely home alone.

On any given night of your childhood, it was pretty likely you would be home by yourself.

You came home to an empty house, except for maybe the family pet, and took a seat on the couch.

It was only when you came home with a friend that you realized his or her home was also occupied by a brother, sister or other family member he or she was with most of the time. The experience probably had your face looking a bit like this:

2. You probably made up a sibling at one point in your life.

When I was little, I really wanted a sibling. Of course, that wasn't happening. So, on some school assignments I just pretended I had one.

I drew in a little brother for our Girl Scout craft day. Everyone knew I didn't have one, but I didn't mind. Too bad my imaginary sibling was so bad at Frisbee.

3. You are probably weird AF.

All that time alone really starts to get to ya. If you are anything like me, you made up songs about stupid things and sang them around the house 24/7.

The only time you realized how annoying you were was when your parents begged you to stop. Sorry, Mom and Dad.

4. You had no concept of "sharing".

Sharing? What's sharing?

When you were a kid, everything was yours. When friends were over, you were extremely protective over anything that was yours. You kept a close eye on your little friends who wanted to play with all of your stuff and you made sure they knew it was all yours.

I'll admit I didn't share well as a kid. But what can you expect from a kid who's very first word was "mine?"

5. You always got your way.

With you it was pretty much your way or the highway.

I remember being a little kid, playing barbies with my friends. I would always ask them which one they wanted to play with (my attempt at being polite) and they almost always picked the one I wanted to be. I would then try to talk them out of the one I wanted.

It was really bratty of me, but I always ended up getting what I wanted.

6. You are super close with your parents.

They are the only people you are constantly with so they know you the best.

They have always supported you through everything! Although you are close, that doesn't mean you always agree. Fights with your parents are the worst, because there isn't really anyone else to talk to who completely understands your situation.

Never fail though, you guys always make up.

7. You are probably way more competitive than you let on.

You secretly love competition and this trait totally goes along with how you always got your way.

You love to win! On the outside you might seem really cool about it if you lost, but on the inside you are screaming.

However, you always try your best not to be a sore loser or a bragger.

8. You have called your pet your sibling before.

They are the closest thing to a sibling you've got.

This is especially true if you have lived with them your entire life. You love him or her with all your heart just like a sibling.

Although, people may give you strange looks when you tell them your brother or sister has a tail.

But, at the end of the day, siblings or not, you wouldn't have it any other way!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
