8 Things I Need To Thank My Brother For
Mackenzi Koop

Kyle, you are my best friend. Growing up with you was tough some days but I would not change it for the world. From our endless fights to our endless nights. I remember the days that we would argue till I cried. I remember days I wish I had a sister instead. But now I cannot imagine my life without you. You are God’s greatest blessing to me. Your friendship means more than anyone else’s. I appreciate you and everything you have done for me. I love you more than words can say. So thank you. For everything.

1. Thank you for being my role model

You are an inspiration. You have always showed me that working hard at something is the only way to achieve anything, and you are right. Thank you for forcing me to work hard for things instead of just letting me off easy. You have shown me not everything in life will be handed to me.

2. Thank you for constantly picking on me

You made me who I am today. Even though you push my buttons more than anyone else, you made me tough. You taught me that life doesn’t always have to be serious.

3. Thank you for showing me how a man should treat his woman

It seems that most boys I run into nowadays are all about how far they can go with you. They think disrespecting women is the cool thing to do. They think hooking up with a different girl every night is normal. In today’s society, girls feel as if that is how they are supposed to be treated. And it breaks my heart that we are taught that it is okay. So thank you for showing me that a women should be treated with respect. For showing me that women should be valued. Thank you for showing me I do not have to settle for anything less. You have proved to me there are good men out there.

More than that, our mother. You give her the utmost respect. The way a man treats his mother is how he will treat you.

4. Thank you for showing me that it is okay to be vulnerable

Seeing your older brother vulnerable is not something that happens often but I PROMISE you it happens.

5. Thank you for being overprotective

Yes, I yelled at you every time you were being overprotective but you have saved me from so much. Whether it be you questioning what I’m wearing or questioning if that boy is good enough for me. (You have always been right about the guys I date or talk to and yes I’m rolling my eyes) I appreciate your questions that sometimes went unanswered.

6. Thank you for being a shoulder to cry on

From the boys who broke my heart, to our parents divorce, to me just being emotional. Thank you for always knowing what to say and what not to say.

7. Thank you for always taking my side

Yes, I was wrong many times. But somehow you never were against me. (Unless it was me against you)

8. Thank you for being my best friend

Days when I feel as if all my girl friends have turned against me, you were there. When you knew something was wrong but would just make me smile instead of asking what was wrong because you knew I did not want to discuss it with.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
