8 Things I Am Going To Miss About Oneonta

Oneonta has been home to me these last three and a half years

As the countdown to the end of my undergraduate college career nears its end, I become increasingly more reminiscent of my past three and a half years at SUNY Oneonta.

(Take note, these are in no particular oder)

1. Sundae Wednesday and Tots

Granted, I have not eaten in a dining hall in two years, much less stepped foot in one outside of giving campus tours, but Sundae Wednesday and finding out they were serving tater tots for breakfast were two of my favorite moments of on-campus dining. Wednesday's would be synonymous with "Averi eats herself into a food coma" day because I have a larger sweet tooth than many would imagine. And potatoes in the shape of deep fried nuggets? How could anyone not enjoy those? Have you seen Napoleon Dynamite?

2. The Indoor Track

As a lover of all things fitness and keeping a healthy lifestyle, the indoor track has become one of my favorite places on campus. Not only is the few beautiful overlooking the soccer field, but it provides a calming environment for me to escape to when stressed out or upset. For me, it was the perfect getaway (without really getting away).

3. All of the Involvement Opportunities

Oneonta is great in that aspect; there are over 110 clubs and organizations you can join and events going on constantly, seven days a week. There is no reason to be bored, and I never was. I loved being able to try out new things, learn more about myself, and truly grow into who I am as a person through all of these opportunities.

4. Yellow Deli

With me from literally day one, like for real, ate here when I visited my senior year of high school, YelDel will forever have a special place in my heart. Even though I'm bitter about the disappearance of the Long Island Rancher, the soup of the day always comes in clutch.

5. RSO

Involved from the very beginning, the Resident Student Organization has been my one consistent involvement throughout my college career. It helped shape me into the confident leader I am today and paved the way for many more great accomplishments to come. From great advisors, making friends with my e-board, and being able to give back to the campus, RSO is something I will truly miss being involved in. Filling up my Wednesdays at 4 PM with something different just wont be the same.

6. The Sip and The Oak

I wouldn't be a college graduate if I didn't say I was going to miss some of the nightlife. The Sip and The Oak were my go-to places that has provided me with countless memories of great nights with some of my closest friends.

7. Sodexo

After all, I am their number one fan...

8. The Views

Granted, yes, I can find other, equally as or more beautiful, than what is here, but growing up on Long Island, I was never surrounded by the scenery that surrounds me here. No matter the season, the landscape is gorgeous and it got to be my home for the last three and a half years.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
