8 Things Everyone Should Know About Campus Technology at FMU

Whether you are a student, faculty, or staff member at Francis Marion, chances are you’ve had to visit our office or give us a call. We talk to tons of people every single day and have decided to fill you in on some of the most common issues/questions that we receive. So pay attention!

1) Where is the Campus Technology office?

Our office is located in the ACC, (Academic Computer Center), which is the building in between the mail center and the Administration building.2) How do I get to the Campus Technology Page?

By surfing on over to www.fmarion.edu and clicking on "Campus Technology" in the Quick Links box, you will find the answers to at least 90% of the problems you may have. This includes: Information concerning Password Manager, Swampfox Mail, Wi-Fi, Library resources, and information about Pay4Print. ***Remember that Password Manager syncs passwords for Wi-Fi, email, Pay4Print, and the log-on for the Library*** You should also know that your password expires after 120 days, so try and reset it before then (You should get an email reminder that expiration is coming up).3) This ain't Geek Squad, and our name is not 1-800-FIX-YOUR-COMPUTER.

Our helpful staff here at Campus Technology would be more than happy to look at your computer if you are having issues with it, and we can identify if your computer has a virus on it. However, we cannot remove the virus, or install anti-virus software for you. What we can do for you is recommend somewhere that can fix your computer's issue. Info regarding anti-virus programs that you can run on your own can be found on our Resnet page.

4) I'll just go ahead and put this rumor to bed and tell you that we do not offer free Microsoft Office to students.

There's been a rumor going around for a while that Campus Technology can download Microsoft for free on your computer. This rumor is false. We cannot install Office for free on anyone's computers. Sorry!

5) We are not open 24 hours a day.

Sadly, we just don’t have it in the budget to keep our IT minions working around the clock. Their asking price *drastically* increased when they made it to Hollywood; therefore, Campus Technology will remain open from 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday.

6) Your gaming devices are all welcome- just in the wall and not in the hall.

Plug it in, plug it in! You have to plug your gaming devices into the data-jack port with an ethernet cable in order for it to work. It will not work through wireless internet. Other devices that wont work on wi-fi include: Wireless Printers, Smart TV’s, Apple TV, Roku, Chromecast, and Windows RT 8.1.

7) Help me help you!

When calling for assistance, please only call the help desk number at 843-661-1111. And when you call, make sure you have your questions ready to go as well as any necessary information, so we can help you as quickly and efficiently as possible!

8) Blackboard

Love it or hate it, Blackboard is something just about everyone has to use. Because of constant usage from an entire University, issues/glitches are bound to arise in the system. Most of the time, these issues are beyond our control at FMU Campus Technology. So, if something does happen and our system crashes, know that our people are tirelessly working around the clock to resolve the issue.

So, when issues arrive, come by and see us, or just give us a call! We love our jobs, and look forward to helping you in the future! Stay Savvy, Patriots!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

The Importance Of Being A Good Person

An open letter to the good-hearted people.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
