With the holidays now over and winter break in its second half, you may wonder how to pass the time, especially when hometown friends begin to return to their respective schools. While sleeping until noon and binge-watching Netflix are enjoyable, there are still new, fun ways to pass the time as break comes to a close.
1. Watch a bunch of movies. Whether classics, romantic comedies or blockbusters, it can be fun to throw a movie night where you finally watch the movies you've always wanted to see.
2. Binge read. You read that correctly: binge reading or reading many books in a short-term period. Reading tends to become a bore as we are forced to read for class, but there are plenty of interesting books out there.
3. Write a story. Have you ever felt that itching desire to write down your crazy, funny stories? With the extra time on your hands, you can. Just throw your thoughts down on paper and go from there!
4. Choreograph a dance. Yes, the "swaying from side-to-side" might be simple, but creating a fun, unique dance will help you to stand out. Bonus points if you teach a friend.
5. Hit the gym. Yes, this might be a New Year's resolution for everyone, but with the stress of school, it can be difficult to go to Yates during the semester. Go for a run, find a fun class or try out lifting weights. Fitness can be fun, not a bore.
6. Cook something new. All the holiday baking might have put a damper on ever approaching a kitchen again, but testing out new recipes is a fun way to try unfamiliar fare. You might even find your signature dish for later on.
7. Go exploring in your hometown. You might think that you've seen all of your town but there's always something new. From new businesses to scenic trails, sometimes a "staycation" can be more fun than traveling!
8. FaceTime your college friends. It is amazing to reconnect with your old friends, but after spending four months with them, you miss your college friends. Just call for a little, plan out your return to school and tell each other about the fun things you've all been doing.
Break is called, "break" for a reason; you can do whatever you would like! Some days might seem lazy and boring, but you can make them fun.
