Whether you have a large family that you see often or one that you only see on occasions, these are things that you undoubtedly know to be true:
1. Every story you have will be about your family.
Whether it is intentional or not, every story you tell somehow involves your family. Sometimes you might even start the story by talking about a friend from school and the next thing you know, your family wound up being the center focus of the story.
2. Not everybody is going to get along.
With a family whose population is equal to that of a small country, people will without a doubt get on each others nerves. Just give each other some time and space to cool down, and you'll be right back to your normal selves.
3. The holiday has rule exceptions, and a lot of them.
Holidays tend to work differently when you have tons of people gathering around. You have all the moms making sure the food is ready to go, and then helping the kids get their plates while the dads and teenagers fight each other off to get the best spot in line. At this time, manners become obsolete.
4. Documentation is mandatory.
It doesn't matter if you just saw Great Aunt Sally two days ago, if you see her again you're going to have to man up and take yet another photo with her. A photo that undoubtedly will end up on Facebook for all of your friends to see.
5. Aunts are just like moms.
When you're away from home and one of your aunts decides to call, video chat, or send four-paged handwritten letters to you, you know you will have to return the notion at some point. And then when you finally muster up the courage and time, it turns out that every relative, even the third cousin who was twice removed, wants a turn to catch up.
6. Names are hard to come by.
Not only do the elderly seem to have a problem remembering names in your family but you do, too. Especially when your alliterative aunt decides to begin all of her children's names with the same consonant sound.
7. Introducing a S.O. can be a bit awkward.
Without a doubt introducing your new boo can be awkward for you and a bit overwhelming for them. They are expected to remember several generations worth of names in just a few hours and who the are directly related to and involved with.
8. It's all with love.
Despite the arguments and annoyances your might have, family is everything to you and you would do anything for them. They are your best friends and your worst enemies, your childhood playmates and adult drinking buddies, but most importantly, they are your family.
