The Eight Stages Of Rush Crushing

The Eight Stages Of Rush Crushing

It's that time of year again: sorority recruitment. After my first year on the other side of rush, I have started to wonder who came up with this weird process of talking to a random girl for a certain number of minutes, awkwardly passing her to one of your friends to talk to (shout out to my bumping buddy), and, after justthat, seeing if your house is a good fit for her. Although this is a weird process, I completely believe it serves its purpose. Somehow, we end up exactly where we're supposed to be. Any guys confused yet?

After almost a week of shamelessly girl flirting all day, every day, I have noticed an interesting phenomenon that comes along with the numbness in my feet. It's called rush crushing. A rush crush is a potential new member that, well, you're a little obsessed with. There are many ways a PNM can become a rush crush, whether it's the fact that you are both watching Gossip Girl for not the first, not the second, but the third time, or the fact that you can see her as one of your sisters in a few days. Dare I say it, you could maybe even see her as your little. Still don't get it, or think that sorority girls are the equivalent of stalkers? I'll walk you through the stages of having a rush crush.

1. Another day, another party.

You love getting to know every girl that walks through the doors of your house, but thinking about ordering Bento with some of your sisters and passing out upstairs sounds really tempting. You hear the one minute knock, and it's go time. There's always that one girl that tries to pump everyone up before the doors open.

2. You follow the line out the door and greet your PNM.

You welcome her into the house and try to make her feel comfortable. You start with the basics; you ask where she's from, what year she is, and why she is rushing.

3. You two get to talking, and all of a sudden, something clicks.

You forget all about the fact that you're "rushing" her, and you start talking like you would talk to any of your friends. Maybe she starts to open up to you, and she talks about her family and her friends back home. Maybe she tells you what she's looking for in a sorority, and you remember feeling the same way. Maybe she just likes the same kind of cheese as you. Regardless of the reason, you just can't fight the feeling that she is your new rush crush. This one is a game changer.

4. You hear your cue, and you know the party is almost over.

You know you should probably start walking towards the door, but do you really have to? You hand her purse back to her, and wish her luck with the rest of her day. You smile and walk back into the house, but you're low key bummed that she couldn't have stayed longer.

5. Next phase.

Like any true srat star, you can't help but tell your sisters everything. A rush crush is no exception. As soon as those doors close and the party ends, you run to your friends and tell them what just happened. It will probably sound like something along the lines of "OH MY GOD MY LAST GIRL WAS SO GREAT. I AM OBSESSED WITH HER. SHE HAS TO COME BACK!"

6. This exclamation of joy will probably be followed with someone shushing you.

Rightfully so. But standing in a room full of your best friends and trying not to talk to them after the last party just isn't easy. Your friends are excited for you, but they'll have to meet her for themselves to see why you're acting like you just found out McDreamy AND McSteamy are still alive. You have to contain your excitement in time for the next party.

7. The next day, you run to the list to see if she will be back this round.

You really hope the feeling is mutual, because if she is coming back, one of your sisters will get to see why you're acting like a kid in Disney World. Better yet, maybe she'll hop on the rush crush bandwagon with you.

8. The week goes on and Bid Day gets closer.

You want her to choose the house she will be the happiest in, but you'd be lying if you though it wasn't yours. Finally, you check the final list of the girls that will be on your lawn wearing your letters. Then, one of two things happens.

a. You check each name on the list, and rush crush just isn't there. Alright, maybe you're a little bummed, but you can't possibly stay bummed on a day that you're getting to welcome all of your new sisters home. Later, you'll probably stalk her Facebook to see that she ended up in an amazing house that you know she'll fall in love with.

Or b. THERE SHE IS! Get ready to hug her and get to know her even better! Hashtag goals, am I right?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
