If you know me, you know my favorite thing in the world is a cup of coffee. Here are a few coffee shops in Spokane you should definitely check out.

1. The Shop

Located in the heart of the Perry District, The Shop is one of my favorite coffee spots in town. The funky vibe of mismatched furniture gives The Shop a homey feel.

What you should order: a simple Americano or an iced coffee.

2. Brain Freeze Creamery

I may be biased because I used to work there, but Brain Freeze Creamery is a great, local place to grab a genuinely good cup of coffee. The staff is kind, they use locally roasted beans, and you can add an awesome sandwich or scoop of ice cream to your order.

What you should order: an affogato (espresso poured over your choice of ice cream) with salted caramel ice cream.

3. Caffe Affogato

Located in the Saranac Commons, this new coffee shop on the rise is really growing on me. After talking to the owner one day, it was evident that his goal is to make Caffe Affogato an authentic, Italian cafe by keeping coffee simple, and offering standard-sized drinks. (No trenta-sized lattes in this joint!)

What you should order: a caffe latte or a generra (mocha with a hint of real orange peel!).

4. Atticus

Atticus is a staple in Spokane. Though its prices can be a little high, the feel of this shop is what makes people keep coming back. Sip on your coffee as you stroll through the attached shop full of books, a wall of assorted loose-leaf teas, and super-cool Spokane-themed knick-knacks.

What you should order: a plain latte (or with some vanilla for those who love something sweet!)

5. Indaba

Another shop known for its simplicity, Indaba is a place all Spokanites and visitors alike must visit. The original store is in West Central off of Broadway Avenue, but the local coffee company opened a new store downtown this past summer. Though the downtown shop might be more convenient for some, it is worth checking out the original Indaba because it shares space with a small bookshop you can peruse as you sip.

What you should order: a pour over (hand-brewed coffee) or Nettleton's Mocha (made with in-house chocolate and caramel).

6. Rocket Bakery

Not just a coffee shop, but also a bakery, Rocket Bakery serves up delicious brews and pastries. Plus, they have more than one location, so once you fall in love with the coffee, you can try out all of the shops to decide which is your favorite.

What you should order: a cappuccino or latte. For those who like cold, icy drinks, order a comet.

7. Rockwood Bakery

Rockwood is one of my favorite spots in Spokane because it's always full of families. Parents bring their children here on weekends, and older couples stop by for a cup of coffee in the mornings. It's a great place to stop for a cup of coffee after a long walk through Manito Park. The shop is big, so take time to sit down, do some work, and enjoy your coffee.

What you should order: a latte and quiche.

8. The Service Station

Possibly one of my favorite spots in Spokane, The Service Station is a great place to grab a cup of joe and a bite to eat, and settle in for a long study session.

What you should order: iced almond milk chai.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
