It's a Friday night. You're ready to go out to wherever you and your roommates favorite hang out spot is, and suddenly the simple action of looking in her full-length mirror sends a snarky comment out of her mouth- sending you both into a full-blown under-handed comment overdrive. After you've both got out your teenage-like angst, the first apology is thrown onto the table casually, and, if you are anything like my roommate and I, you'll ask each other, "Wait, when did we enter an actual relationship?" Here are eight signs and symptoms you and your roommate are in an actual relationship, too.
1. You have an abrupt desire to leave whatever social situation you are in to watch HGTV on the couch together.
Because Chip, Joanna, and a whole bottle of white zinfandel are way better than any people you could possibly be socializing with.
2. You text them before every. single. meal.
You aren't going to pick up some nuggets without asking her if she wants some too. Never leave your partner hungry, ever (you know how angry she gets when she's without ample nourishment).
3. There is no "mine' or "yours" anymore.
Everything is literally fluid at this point. Clothes, shoes, food, deodorant- it's all fair game at this point.
4. They put up with your mood swings brilliantly.
Who else knows that all you really need is a trip to Blackbird Bakery for a cheesecake to fix anything?
5. And you put up with theirs.
I mean, you're not the only diva in the house...
6. You know every single detail about their day.
When she works, when she sleeps, when she gets up to pee. You know every last thing she does- even some things you wish you didn't know.
7. You hate all the same things.
Let's be honest, it's not all about loving the same stuff, it's about being able to complain about all the same stuff.
8. No matter what, you love them more than anything.
Whatever happens, whatever is said, whatever is done, they are your person and they always will be. A good roommate is hard to come by, so if you find yourself in a really awkward life phase living with your best friend who gets you and puts up with you, cherish it.
