Let's face it. High school was a great time. You made "life-long" friends, and you couldn't imagine your life without them. And, hey, you were really good at soccer (or insert any sport you played, you go, girl, self-empowerment.) But the cold truth is back, like the terrible mark up before Black Friday deals. You are in university now. You have some new rules to play by, sweetie. Granted, they don't take long to learn and there will be some bumps and drunken mystery bruises, but you can do it. Here are eight of those signs to help you remember that you are not in high school.
1. You don't have to take a picture at a party. You need to take a picture at every party.
Life is too short to not take pictures. Also, you never know when you'll need that last second profile picture to make anyone, definitely an ex, jealous. Plus, if you don't take a picture, did it even actually happen?
2. Drama doesn't actually exist.
Okay, so bear with me here. Yes, drama has and always will exist. Whether it is "Boy Meets World," the eighth grade dance or a family reunion, there will be drama. But you are better than drama now. But hey, maybe a little drama from time to time isn't too bad.
3. You find your real best friends
Cue the sentimental "As we go on," song. Yes, I am being honest. You are more likely to find authentic friends in college. After all, you are only true best friends after you eat Chipotle in front of someone.
4. Home cooked food has a different meaning.
How were you ever able to not be hungry at home? How could you know what lay beyond high school cafeterias could be so vile? And who knew it was so expensive to eat out every night? And Day?
5. You "Do Lunch"
Doing lunch was just what they say in the movies right? Nope. Wrong. So so so so so wrong. Doing lunch happens every day. You actually have to go out and seek lunch. So, finding a partner for your lunch safari can be fun but also a vital bonding moment.
6. Looks don't matter.
Seriously. Gone are the days of seeing the same 20 classmates every day and needing to look "presentable," in some form. Say hello to waking up fie minutes before class and speed walking to class.
7. You find yourself
Okay, cue actual sappy music. You now understand what matters and what does not. More importantly, you find out what matters to you. High school can seem like a show where you don't get to do what you want. But once you cross that stage and you enter the college world, you are on your own. Some of us get it right away, but for the majority of us, it's just a day to day process.
High School is great. Everyone (well most everyone, looking at you) goes to high school and its where many people begin their social career. But, once you're in college, you get to, or have to, start fresh. Take advantage of that and become who you are meant to be.
