8 Signs You Grew Up In Northeast Pennsylvania

"Scranton, WHAT, The Electric City!!!"

Wikipedia

The 570, The Valley, and NEPA. These are all common names for the greatest area on Earth. This is home of the Scranton/Wilkes Barre Penguins and the Railriders. Home of the Electric City. Home of the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company (shoutout to all of "The Office" fans). We have our own language along with many other things that make us a unique group of people. If you know what these are, chances are you grew up in good old NEPA.

1. Middleswarth chips

If you're from the area, your mouth has probably had the chance to experience the greatest chips ever. To compare them to Lays would be a huge disservice to them. If you haven't tried the BBQ ones, you're truly missing out.

2. Henyabonics

"Couple two tree." "Henya?" "Henya." "Up the Eynon." "Down the line." "Ju eat? No, ju?" "Youse guys!" Hey, at least we don't say "yinz."

3. The Potholes

We don't even mind driving out of the area because of how bad our roads are, ESPECIALLY during the spring. For whatever reason our roads get trashed during the winter and, then, don't get fixed until the summer. Go figure.

4. Ability to pronounce the Indian names correctly

We may not be able to say, "did you eat?" But, we can say a lot of the Indian names of the area properly. These include: Schuykill, Nequehoning, and Susquehanna.

5. The Pizza

You can google pizza anywhere in NEPA, and I can guarantee at least 6 local pizza shops will pop up within 3 miles of your location. We are also home to the Old Forge style pizza. What more could you ask for?

6. The Electric City

There is plenty to do in good old Scranton. You can get a tattoo, go on a Coal Mine tour, walk around the Courthouse, go to Lake Scranton, or even go to the Steamtown Mall (not that I would suggest that).

7. Ordering a TRAY of pizza

It is NOT a pie, and it sure as hell isn't just a pizza. It is a tray of pizza. No one can tell me differently, even though we are the only ones to call it that.

8. St. Patty's Day Parade

Of course, we have tons of different festivals, carnivals, and parades. Some fan favorites are the Wayne County Fair, The Italian Festival, The Harford Fair, and the Jessup Carnival. What takes the cake though is our St. Patty's Day parade. We are ranked 9th in the US thanks to US News. Remember: Ain't no party like a Scranton party.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
