Eight Reasons Why Winter Is So Much Worse in College

Eight Reasons Why Winter Is So Much Worse in College

1. The Walk to Class

No matter how long your journey to campus is, it’s all equally miserable once the cold has made you completely numb. Just one look at all the freezing faces of your peers will convince that winter really is the worst season.

2. The Constant Coughing

No, I’m not talking about your own. I’m talking about your daily struggle to hear your professor in each class because everyone around you has suddenly developed tuberculosis. If you can catch a single word said in between the sniffling and sneezing, consider yourself lucky. Just do your best to pay attention and if that guy behind me coughs on my neck one more time I’m going to snap.

3The Paranoia of Getting Sick

Even the most laid back of us gets a knot in their stomach when sitting in a classroom filled with people not well enough to be there. You’ve got three tests, a project, and a date party coming up and Oh Lord I REALLY can’t get sick this week. Is my throat hurting?

4. The Actual Getting Sick

Being sick in college is the worst. After you’ve gotten over the "I need my mom" phase, you actually have to figure out what to do on your own. You never realized how complicated doctor’s appointments or filling prescriptions could be until you had to do it on your own.

5. Everything is Dead

Remember how pretty campus used to be? When the sun was shining, everything was alive and green? Yeah, I’m starting to forget too. Winter does a pretty good job of making everything look barren and gray. Between the rain, snow, and constant clouds, a little sunshine would be nice soon.

6. Game Day Nostalgia

One of the best parts of college is the football. A college campus transforms into one of the greatest places on earth on a game day. People come from all around, tailgating is incredible, and there’s nothing like sitting in a college student section cheering on your team. Even though it was just a few months ago and just a few months away, walking past an empty stadium will leave you with an equally empty feeling inside.

7. Spring Break Is Forever Away

The one thought getting you through the winter season is Spring Break. Friends, fun, and hopefully some warmer weather await. And the more you think about it, the longer away it seems. Can you possibly wait for all these weeks to pass? And then in a weird twist, when you begin to think of actually putting on a bathing suit again, the break seems overwhelming close and I really should’ve started working out sooner.

8. You Feel Ugly

Winter is just a bad time for everyone. It’s really hard to feel attractive when you haven’t seen the sun in 3 months. Everyone feels pale, everyone feels out of shape, and everyone feels like they look huge in three layers of clothing. It’s natural, and all there is to do is hang on until the weather starts to warm up and everything feels right in the world again.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
