8 Reasons Why People Chose OSU

Why pick THE Ohio State University? It's a question quite a few people have. Let's be completely up front here, people expect 17 and 18 year olds to make a huge decision that could make or break the rest of their college career, and it's not an easy decision to make. Whether you're trying to figure out if OSU is the right choice for you, or if you just want to get to know why people love OSU, keep reading, some of these reasons might just surprise you.

1. "It was only one of two schools in Ohio that offered my major" -Ally, Sophomore

Not only was it one of a handful of schools that offered her major, "it was SO much cheaper than Findlay." She might have 99 problems but student loans ain't one!

2. "Because I wanted to get out of state (I'm from [that state up North])" -Isabel, Junior

As well as wanting to get out of that state up North (wouldn't we all), she "loved the campus/city and the overall environment of OSU." Sometimes it's just how you vibe with your school.

3. "I realized it's the only place I could go and be truly happy" -Hannah, Freshman

In a letter she wrote to herself in the 8th grade, she talked about how "OSU was [her] dream since [she] was little". A love for OSU ran in her blood.

4. "I'd rather do to a school that I love and am obsessed with but be in debt than go to a school that I just settled for and have school paid off" -Jordan, Sophomore

He wasn't even going to apply to OSU in the first place because he didn't think he was smart enough and didn't like what he heard about the students. Once he visited though, he realized he loved it, and he [hasn't] regretted [his] choice once."

5. "The second I stepped on campus I knew it was the place for me" -Carolyn, Sophomore

Also an out-of-stater, she "didn't think [she] would feel at home here," but she made amazing friends (shoutout Kate and Eleanor) and loves the campus. What more could you ask for?

6. "I got a full tuition scholarship through Morrill" Paul, Freshman

Although he had other universities on his list, neither of them gave him any money. In his mind he "didn't get enough money anywhere else to justify not going to OSU." And people think young people aren't fiscally responsible...

7. "My mom went to college here, and she became pregnant with me while she was finishing up grad school at OSU so it was destiny" -Ashlynn, Senior

Family play a big part in where you decide to go to college. It especially helps if you're literally a Bucks fan, born and raised. Plus, she adds, "they offer a great education program as well as the general atmosphere just makes me happy to be apart of this school and feel at home." For some people, it's meant to be.

8. "I liked the Exploration program here a lot because I had no idea what to major in" -Marly, Sophomore

Let's be honest, when making a decision on what to major in, you'll most likely change it. Luckily OSU has amazing exploration program that helps out a lot of 18 year olds so they don't have to waste time on classes they don't need because they switch majors. The price was also low for her and she liked the honors program.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
