My mom wears many hats.
Some people call her Barbara, others say Barbs, and many call her Abba. Whatever you call her, she is my mom.
But, she is more than just a mom.
She's witty, beautiful, intelligent, and altruistic. Whenever I need her, she's there. She's there to answer my calls twelve times a day. She's there to calm me during my mental breakdowns during midterms. She's there to watch Gilmore Girls with me on the couch on a Friday night.
Not only is she my mother, but she is also my...
1. Confidante
We tell each other all of our gossip and secrets.
"Did you hear who is pregnant?" ... "NO FREAKING WAY!"
2. Fashion Expert
According to my mother, Mom Jeans are ALWAYS in style!
3. Teacher
Since my mom is actually a teacher, she teaches me calculus as well as how to effectively use your hands to speak like a true Italian-American from the Bronx.
4. Accountant
For when being a broke college student is too hard to bear, I have my mom double check my finances to make sure that the zero is not just a figment of my imagination.
5. Makeup Artist
My mom: "This is how I did my makeup in my clubbing days in the '80s!"
Over the years, I've learned to do my own makeup.
6. Hairdresser
7. Personal Chef (Italian cuisine only)
Just add "bam" and "bobbity-boopity"! ... also Italian curse words.8. My Best Friend
All best friends do everything for each other and I know that my mom has done more than everything for me. And I cannot thank her enough for doing all of these things for me whether she enjoyed them or not, or whether I appreciated them or not. My promise to my mom is to return the favor and be her confidante, fashion expert, teacher, accountant, makeup artist, hairdresser, personal chef, and, of course, her best friend, now and forever. I just want to thank her and tell her that I appreciate her with all of my heart. And everyone should do the same to their mothers or mother-figures in their lives.
I love you so much, Mom!
