8 Reasons Why I Love LuLaRoe

And why I think you could, too.

8 Reasons Why I Love LuLaRoe
Michal Smelser

"It's so expensive."

"I just wouldn't feel comfortable wearing leggings in public."

"Some of the patterns aren't very flattering. Others are downright unattractive."

I've heard all of these reasons for not wearing LuLaRoe comfortable clothing, but I'd like to give you a few reasons why I do wear it.

1. The story.

LuLaRoe was started by DeAnne Stidham, a single mother of seven who wanted to find a way to be with her family and financially support them at the same time. At that time, she started selling end-of-season dresses to friends and family. From there, she began her own clothing line, and now there are thousands of women across the country, from college students to single moms to married mothers of seven, selling her clothing and sharing their stories.

2. I actually feel comfortable and dressy at the same time.

I'm pretty sure every girl can feel this struggle. I've heard the phrase "Beauty is pain" and other similar mantras passed around all my life, especially since I hit puberty. But with LuLaRoe, I can feel comfortable and pretty without having to worry that a button, zipper, or clasp came undone. Plus, I don't feel the need to change as soon as I get home.

3. The styles are both versatile and flattering.

Depending on the look you want, you can wear several pieces in a variety of ways and sizes. Take the Carly dress: it is big and flowy in my regular size large, but I could probably size down to an extra small or size up to an extra large and still look good. All it would take is a belt, or maybe a large knot, to take in the dress a bit... and it still looks good! As for the smaller sizes, the dress would simply take on a tighter look and the length would gradually shorten. I doubt that even an extra small would be immodest to me, and I am a pretty modest person!

4. The patterns range from eclectic and loud to plain and simple.

There are both solid and heathered prints for those who like it simple, and the colors range from bright and eye-catching to muted and blend-in worthy. The patterns can be anything from geometric shapes and dot patterns to real-life items like bikes, animals, piano keys, and more. I'm usually a pretty simple dresser, but the nice thing about LuLaRoe is that I've pushed myself to try new patterns and colors that I would never have considered... like this pastel-colored Perfect Tee which I now love, despite my normal preference of dark colors like black, deep blue, and sometimes royal purple.

5. They sell skirts and dresses with pockets.

I cannot emphasize this enough. What girl doesn't like a dress with pockets? Not all of their pieces have pockets, but honestly, I don't always need them. And if I do, I can just buy exclusively that style. There are enough patterns that you can craft an entire LuLaRoe wardrobe with just a few pieces, and you won't feel like you wear the same thing every day.

6. The leggings.

This probably should have been higher up on the list. These leggings are the most comfortable I have ever worn. They're buttery soft, don't pinch my belly, and did I mention how soft they are? Seriously, if you ever see me wearing my LuLa leggings, just ask to touch them–I won't mind. Most leggings make me feel like Ursula the Sea Witch when she sheds her human form and turns back into her normal octopus self: like I've been unfairly and uncomfortably contained and now may burst forth in comfortably glory. But not LuLaRoe. They contain my midsection without discomfort or Sea Witch scenes. Plus, if you're concerned about feeling immodest, you can wear your leggings under dresses, skirts, or tunic shirts. The Irma Tunic and the Perfect Tee are both plenty long to cover the butt and still look great.

7. The community.

There is an amazing community surrounding this brand. Most of the women who buy or sell LuLaRoe understand the struggle of wanting to find modest clothing that is flattering to your shape. After all, that's what the company was built on. The community is so supportive and encouraging, and many of the consultants are constantly saying, "What's your why? Here's mine." All of their stories are so encouraging and help me remember that all good things come to those who wait for and are open to opportunities when they appear.

8. LuLaRoe makes me feel beautiful.

This is, without doubt, the most important reason. I've struggled in the past with my looks. My hair is plain, brown, and refuses to hold curls or waves. My eyes are a nondescript brown. My face is a little too sound for my tastes, and I really hate that I carry so much extra weight in my midsection. There have been people close to me in the past who have pressured me to lose that weight, which made me feel depressed, unloved, and worthless. But LuLaRoe makes me feel beautiful because I can draw attention away from what I don't like and towards what I do. Instead of worrying that my belly makes me look pregnant, my hair is dull and boring because I'm unwilling to spend hours primping and hairspraying, and that my long face tends to make me look constantly sad, I can concentrate on the fact that I do have curves. I can celebrate that my hair is so easy to take care of. I can be glad that my eyes are such a gorgeous shade of brown.

There are a lot of reasons not to love LuLaRoe: the price, the semi-complicated ordering process, the competitive nature of availability (patterns are printed on a limited number of pieces in a limited number of sizes and are distributed randomly to consultants according to what size and style is ordered). But if you think it's worth it, I encourage you to find a local consultant here. If you live in the Hamilton County, Indiana area, I highly encourage you to buy from my personal consultant, Ariel B. Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
