8 Reasons Why Dogs Are the Best Pets

8 Reasons Why Dogs Are the Best Pets

When I was younger, I didn't have a dog. I always grew up with cats in my house. For the longest time, I wanted a dog. Right before I left for college, my sister got my dad a dog for Father's Day. He wasn't thrilled about it, but it ended up being one of the best things to happen to our family. Don't get me wrong, cats are great, but life is just so much better with a dog. Here's why:

1. You always have a walking/running buddy.

One of the best parts about having a dog is that you always have a buddy when you go for a walk or run. Not only are they always willing to go with you, but they'll enjoy every second of the walk they're on. There's nothing they love more than being outdoors and spending more time with you (except, maybe, treats and toys).

2. You have a constant cuddle buddy.

Yes, cats like to cuddle too, but with dogs it's different. They'll cuddle up as close as possible to you because they want to be as close as possible to you. They don't need you to pet them or entertain them. They just want to snuggle up next to you while you binge watch Netflix.

3. They make you laugh.

I can't begin to tell you how many times I've busted out laughing because of something ridiculous my dogs have done. Dogs are definitely a mood booster and can make you feel better.

4. They're there for you when you don't feel like you have anyone else.

We all have those days where we're completely down on ourselves. We feel like the world is against us and that nothing is going right. Dogs make those days better. Nothing feels better than having your dog come and lay next to you when you're feeling down.

5. They're always happy to see you.

Walking through the front door and seeing your dog standing there with their tail wagging is the best feeling. They're so excited to see you that they can barely contain themselves! It's a beautiful feeling to be greeted that way, especially after a long day.

6. It's fun to buy things for them.

I can't begin to tell you how many times I've been at a Target or Wal*mart and have to stop in the pet aisle. I always find myself buying my dogs a new little toy. Why? It makes them happy. When they see a new toy, they get excited and can't wait to get their hands on it. Making them happy makes me happy.

7. They will always protect you.

We've all seen the videos where the dog saves somebody, whether it's a kid or an adult, from an adult, another animal, etc. Dogs are loyal animals that will stick by their owner's side. It may be cliche, but it's nice knowing that somebody has your back.

8. They love you no matter what.

You can accidentally step on their paws, yell at them, etc. and 20 seconds later they will come back to you, wagging their tails and trying to lick you. No matter what goes wrong in your life, they are the one constant variable that will not change. They will love you unconditionally and nothing is better than that.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
