This past weekend was definitely one to remember. A Cane in enemy territory was definitely an interesting experience. However, two days in Tallahassee just made me realize that I LOVE being a Cane. Here's why:
1. There are a wide range of things to do within Miami itself.
There is literally something for every kind of person in Miami and chances are you can find whatever it is that you need within five miles. In Tallahassee, there is literally nothing.
2. Our fans vs. their fans.
I'm all for football trash talk, and I'm well aware that the U does a lot of that. However, throwing beer bottles and cups full of beer at people walking by just for wearing their team's colors is not Miami's way of doing things.
3. Our city doesn't become unnavigable after a game.
Literally all the streets are shut down over there and you can't even get around.
4. Uber here is a reasonable price.
128$ for an Uber of less than 10 miles is actually the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen.
5. Our nightlife.
While our clubs may not be as close to campus as theirs, ours are not located in shopping centers. They also don't close at 2 am.
6. Our school pride.
The Noles have great school spirit. They fill up their stadium and uniformly do the chop, and I must admit it looks pretty bad ass. But, for the small student section that UM had within that high stadium, we made more noise than them. You could hear our chants far and wide.
7. We can tailgate without a frat.
While frat tailgates are also a big thing in Miami, they aren't the only thing. At FSU, if you aren't involved in some sort of greek life, your tailgate will most likely be a small tent at a gas station/side of the road.
8. 5 > 3.
Five national championships (6 really, depending on who you ask) is still better than 3. No matter what the outcome of that game was, it was a good one and every single UM fan left that stadium just as proud to stand by the U.
So in conclusion, Bye Tallahassee. See you never.
