:Atlantis: The Lost Empire" is one of my favorite Disney movies. It's a great sci-fi action, adventure movie that follows Milo Thatch, a museum maintenance worker/linguist, who believes in the city of Atlantis. Like his grandfather, he has spent his life researching Atlantis and its possible whereabouts. He is given a sacred book and believes it to be the guide to lead to the city of Atlantis. This movie released in 2001 and sadly is underrated and did not do so well in box office.
However, I still love this movie and here is just a few reasons why:
1. The cast is basically a bunch of geeks (and villains).
The main crew is consisted of many characters who specialize in specific area, well besides Packard, the radio operator and Cookie, the cook. Obsessed with the idea of Atlantis, linguist Milo Thatch is the main protagonist, leading the group. Audrey, the female mechanic, is the youngest in the group and was one of the best by the time she was a teenager. Dr. Sweet was preforming almost any medical tests, the moment he met Milo. Mole is obsessed with dirt and rocks, hence the name while Vinny is an expert with explosives. The other two crew members are not really specialized in anything other than being power-hungry, money-driven, and using weapons to handle situations.
2. During a time of musical-driven Disney movies, this movie was something different.
Around this time, there were a bunch of movies coming out with the official Disney princess, singing songs, with their happily ever afters. However, this flick brought a different genre, plot style, array of characters, and your not so typical princess, Kida, who contrasts the princesses of her time.
3. The production crew made special t-shirts that said: "ATLANTIS-- Fewer songs, more explosions."
4. The diversity of the cast is awesome.
The main cast of Atlantis has people of all shapes and sizes, various races/ethnicity, different ages, and varying personalities.
5. Kida is QUEEN. Literally.
Kida is a strong female lead, who not only varies from the princesses of her time in how she looks, but also in how she acts. She is able to care for her people, considering what's best, and can kick butt when needed. Not only this, but she becomes Queen of Atlantis (the first Disney princess to do so) and doesn't need a man to do so. (I love Milo though, don't get me wrong.)

6. The movie teaches a phenomenal lesson.
It may seems cheesy to some as it follows the aspect of "follow your dreams," but Atlantis teaches about achieving your dreams despite no one believing in you, You have to go the limits to make it happen.
7. THERE ARE FLYING FISH. FLYING FISH VEHICLES.
8. The details are amazing.
There was about 350 artists, animators, and technicians working on the film. With that manpower, they created Atlantis with great accuracy for the time period and with a refreshing art style. Not only this, but a new language (Atlantean) was created for the film by linguist Marc Okrand, the man who created Klingon for Star Trek.
