As soon as I clicked random roommate on the university questionnaire I knew I was in for a surprise. Who knew who I was going to end up with? Possibly a girl that I couldn't ever get along with. Or maybe even a girl who I couldn't ever live without. Luckily I ended up with the latter. This step was a major one, considering I would soon be living with a girl who I have never met or even knew the first thing about. These are a few perks of living with a stranger who turned into one of my best friends.
You were my first friend
Coming to this university was a new chapter in my life and I didn't know anyone. I was unsure of a lot of things and was excited and scared to be here. You helped me ease into that transition and you were there from the hectic first day to today.
Starting fresh
This girl didn't know anything about you or your past and you can start fresh with a new face. Coming from high school most people knew your business and knew everything about you, but now you can start over and introduce yourself in a new light.
I have a built-in tutor
Say no more about an expensive or time-consuming tutor. Whenever I need help in a subject I'm weak at most likely my roommate is there to help and vice versa. I'll always have a proofreader or a math tutor when I can't make sense of an assignment.
We are the same person
We may not like all of the same things and we may not see eye to eye on others, but our personalities seem to be somewhat identical. We know each other just as we know ourselves and that's something that may be hard to come by.
We tell each other everything
I'll always have someone to gossip with at 2 a.m. in the morning when we both have exams the next morning. Whenever I need to vent you're there or whenever we just want to talk you always have an ear open.
I always have a buddy
We're attached at the hip. Not literally, of course. We do most activities together, whether it's playing Uno on a boring Tuesday night or it's going to Target just because we're bored. I can always count on you.
Their friends become your friends
Establishing a friendship with a new person means that you're opening a door to a whole new friend group. And who knows these people may even become your best friends? Not to mention being friends with your roommate's friends means that you will all have a tighter bond.
You've become family
From the moment we first started following each other on social media I knew this bond would be something special. I now have another sister to depend on when I can't decide on what to wear in the morning or help me decide what kind of food I'm in the mood for.
Having a random roommate can be such a scary decision, but in the end, it's all worth it. You've become such an important and big part of my life and I'm glad somehow we ended up as roommates.
