My entire life I have never been the girl who has long, gorgeous hair. My hair is thick, curly and an absolute nightmare for someone who has such a minimalist personality. When I was in high school, I took the leap and chopped all my hair off and it made my life ten times easier, and I couldn't be happier. This year, after growing my hair out to past my shoulders, I chopped it all off again. My pixie cut is part of who I am and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Here are my favorite things about having short hair!

1. I save money.

The amount of money I save is outrageous! I use so much less shampoo and conditioner than when I had long hair. It’s a lifesaver for the college student who can only afford to spend money on shampoo every six months. Products for styling my hair got cheaper, too. Overall, I save a lot of money by not having to wash and style as much hair.

2. I take quicker showers.

Instead of having to run shampoo and conditioner through my whole long mess of hair and make sure it’s all washed out well, I just scrub it on my head and rinse. It cuts shower time in half. Showering in the morning is now possible for me!

3. Getting ready is a lot quicker, too.

I have curly hair and hate it, so I straighten it. Straightening my hair used to take about 45 minutes, but now it takes no more than five. I put some styling product in it, mess it up, and I’m good to go.

4. Bedhead is a great look.

I am not a morning person, so being able to wake up and have the bedhead-from-the-night-before look well is a personal favorite to having short hair.

5. Wind doesn’t bother me.

My hair blows in the wind with long hair and it’s either in my mouth, I can’t see, or my bangs go in all different directions. If wind blows through my pixie cut, I just have to run my hand through it and it goes back to normal.

6. Shedding doesn’t happen.

Every girl knows what I’m talking about. Hair on their bed, on their couches, on all their clothes, all over the bathroom, on all their boyfriend’s clothes, in the car, etc. It drives me nuts when it’s my hair, but with my pixie cut, I don’t find my hair anywhere.

7. Knots are nonexistent.

Having thick, curly hair means that I constantly had knots I had to yank out with my brush because of wind or being a restless sleeper. Having short hair definitely means I never have knots, which never means having to hurt my poor head by forcing them out with a brush.

8. No hair in my mouth when I drink from a water fountain.

Now, this last reason might seem a little ridiculous, but hear me out. I drink a lot of water and sometimes I run out of water during the day, and I just need a quick drink from a water fountain. Having long hair always bothered me doing this because no matter how I positioned my head, hair would either fall in my mouth or slip out from my hand that’s holding it back. It is one of my biggest pet peeves, so it’s a big deal for me.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
