8 Reasons I Can't Wait For College With My Sibling

#4 is too relatable

8 Reasons I Can't Wait For College With My Sibling
Emma Casagrande

For the first time in three years, my brother and I will once again attend the same school. I bounced around between three schools trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life while he attended a regional campus close to home. This year, the planets aligned and we found our way back to each other. There's so much I look forward to this year as we continue our college careers together.

1. Weekly Family Dinners

While I may still live on campus, kitchenless, my brother will be living off-campus in an apartment. Needless to say, I will be making myself at home. I've already declared Saturday nights "Family Dinner Night," but let's be real. I'll be there at least three days out of the week. A person can only take so much cafeteria food.

2. Personal Body Guard

My brother and I have a weird dynamic that almost cancels itself out. I'm a year older, so in reality, I should be the one looking out for him. In actuality, he's much taller and MUCH stronger than I am. I'll leave the body guarding to him and stick to my strong suit...solid advice.

3. Built In Gym Buddy

Speaking of strength, I'll finally have a gym buddy at school! And a tough one at that. My brother and I have been frequenting the gym here at home, and let me tell you, I am sore. The great thing about working out with your sibling is neither of you are afraid to push the other far past their breaking point. It's not working if it doesn't hurt, right?

4. You Scratch My Back, I Scratch Yours

It's like we've been practicing for this all our lives! Anyone with a sibling knows there's always a trade-off when it comes to doing favors for each other. I don't have a car but my brother does. You see where I'm going with this? He gives me a ride, and I'll edit his term papers. Trade-off.

5. Sharing Friends

My brother and I tend to hang out with the same crowd. Going to school together means we get to expand that crowd. I'll invite him to dinner with my friends. He'll invite me over to hang out with his friends. We'll both get the low-down on where the good parties are and make plans to go. We'll be able to make the most of our time together and create memories that'll last a lifetime.

6. No More Goodbyes

For the past three years, I've had to pack up all my things and say goodbye to my brother, and each year, we would make plans for him to come visit me. We always had a good time when he came to visit. Now, I'm excited those good times can happen more than once a semester.

7. Some Of Your Home Is Close To You

We all have those days. It doesn't matter if you're a freshman or a senior, sometimes you get homesick. Who better to comfort you than family? You can have an impromptu movie night or even study together in silence. Their presence is all you need.

8. An Escape From The Real World

Remember when you were both young kids and would play make believe? We may be in our 20s now, but everyone needs to escape reality every once in a while. Siblings are the best for that. Being weird isn't considered weird between my brother and I. It takes us back to a time when responsibilities didn't exist and the weight of the world never sat on our shoulders. And that's something only a sibling can give you.

I know I won't see my brother every day. There'll be times when we both need our space, but I know we'll be there for each other whenever we need it. There's no stronger bond than that between siblings.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
