After my mom remarried, my two younger siblings and I suddenly became part of a nine-person family. Things were crowded, and took some time to get used to, but we all learned how great it was to have a huge family.
There are so many perks to living with eight other people--and I'm positive anybody with a large family would say that, too.
1. There is always somebody to hang out with.
No matter where you go inside our house, there is somebody sitting around watching TV, cooking food, or just hanging out. While it can sometimes be overwhelming when you want to spend time by yourself, it's good to know you always have a friend nearby.
2. Lots of leftovers.
As we've all gotten older and family dinners have stopping occurring every night, no one knows how much food to make for dinner anymore. There is always a chance that the fridge is filled with a few Tupperware containers full of last night's dinner.
3. Somebody has a car.
A large number of people means a ton of cars. Chances are, somebody can let you borrow their car, or at the very least can give you a ride to wherever you need to go. Of course, cars might cause the majority of fights, but hey, at least you'll always have a partner to duet with on long drives.
4. Hand-me-downs and sharing clothes.
Something doesn't fit you or one of your siblings anymore? Someone will take it. And once your siblings outgrows something, you can stop stealing it from their closet. Even if you're the same size as another one of your siblings, you can still borrow their clothes. It's kind of like having a closet the size of your house.
5. People to lean on.
Just like there is always somebody to hang out with in a large family, there's always a shoulder to lean on. Someone will listen, someone will dry your tears, and someone will tell you that everything is going to be all right.
6. Something is always happening.
With so many people in one house, there's bound to be a new funny or shocking story every day. Even if nothing has happened yet, something definitely will before the day is done. There are just too many people in one place for it to not happen.
7. There's no judgement.
You can be as weird as you want around your siblings. Besides, one of them is probably doing something weirder than you are, so all attention will be on them (probably). This no judgement rule doesn't apply to parents, however; they still think you're being weird, and probably won't hesitate to let you know.
8. You have your best friends for life.
You fight, you yell, and you bicker, but in the end, you all have each other's backs. You protect each other no matter what, and the love in a large family is real.
