8 Old School Songs For Your Out-Of-School Summer
Anthony Delanoix

School is out and you’re looking for your summer soundtrack, current top 40 hits are great, but aren’t cutting it. Take a jump back in the past, here are some old tracks for some moments you may encounter.

  1. You’ve packed up your things and kissed the school year goodbye. Arriving at home is bittersweet. Life is seemingly looking up: no shower shoes, access to a fridge 24/7, and no abrupt middle night noises (fire alarms or in the case of ‘Cuse, robberies). However, as days pass and you soak in the luxuries of home life, you realize it just doesn’t compare to college. When this moment comes upon you, listen to Don’t Dream It’s Over by Crowded House, it will soothe you maybe even take you back to that rad night you had with your best friends.
  2. The day has come…infinite sunshine. And you can’t help it, but you’ve got an ear to ear grin (possibly also because your first weeks pay at your job/internship just cleared in your account). Life is good. You got to bust a move or two. In that case, this one is the one for you: Mr. Blue Sky by ELO. It will be a moment of pure happiness…I promise.
  3. If you haven’t started your summer job or internship and your first day is coming up. Don’t worry, there’s no reason to be nervous. They decided to hire you for a reason: you’re cool and talented. You will kill it, remember who you are…maybe throw on My Name Is by Eminem, sometimes blowing the ego a bit is key (not DJ Khaled approved, sorry).
  4. It’s time for your first summer adventure. You decide to road trip to see school friends neck of the woods. We all know car time is time to reflect and jam out. Some of the best opportunities to think are in the car driving and listening to music; if we didn’t have this time when would we figure out our lives? Okay, well this song may be good for the shower too…put on Ordinary World by Duran Duran, relax and think.
  5. You can’t help it, but think about that person…you know the one you think about right as you fall asleep and as you get up. It’s okay, we all have someone like it. For some, we let ourselves love, and some, we can’t stand to love. The perfect thing to figure out what you should do is listen to a little Elton John. His voice can rattle our souls and point us in the right direction. Check out: Your Song.
  6. You’re pulling away from your first date with your possible summer fling. You’ve still got butterflies, the dimples on that face have you smitten. For now, everything seems like its smooth sailing. You feel confident enough that you don’t care if you don’t hear from them, but still giddy enough that you want to give them a big smooch. Kiss Me by Sixpence None the Richer is your anthem.
  7. You’re sitting on the beach: the sun is kissing your skin and the salty air is tingling your lips. To paint the picture, even more, the waves are crashing on your toes as a little kid drags their shovel across your hand. Maybe even you’re crunching on frozen grapes. What’s missing you ask? Your tunes! Steal My Sunshine by LEN will only add to your beach bum vibes.
  8. If you’re unfortunately not able to cool off at the beach and it’s a super hot day (sorry-maybe water balloon fight?), you can bring joy by a dance party. Have fun and swing around fix yourself a nice cold glass of water with lots of ice as you can jam to Ice Ice Baby by Vanilla Ice.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

The Importance Of Being A Good Person

An open letter to the good-hearted people.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
