For me, makeup is a lifestyle. Makeup always gave me that little boost of confidence growing up. It was there for me when I would have random breakouts, that awful time when I would make myself look like a raccoon with eyeliner and even now when I think that mascara determines if I am going to look like I somewhat have my life together or not. Makeup is a big part of who I am. Although I may not be the best at contour or the perfect smoky eye, there are certain products that I can’t live without. Quite frankly, I believe that every girl or guy should have these in their makeup bag. Here are my eight products that are essential to every makeup beginner or lover.
1. Primer
That first step that is crucial to any makeup look, yet so many of us forget. Who doesn’t want their look to last all day and night? The primer will make your skin look brighter and decrease the appearance of pores to give you a more flawless look.
2. Foundation
Just like any building, something can’t be created without a well-built foundation. With so many out there, there is a perfect one for everybody. Even if you don’t wear makeup every day, it is better to be prepared when you need to look on point. If you are looking for a full, flawless coverage, foundation is the way for you. If you are looking for something lighter, BB cream will soon become your way of life.
3. Spot Concealer
During my breakout stage, spot concealer was my best friend. This should be matte, as it covers any unwanted blemishes due to its highly concentrated coverage. Even on the days when you don’t feel like wearing makeup, you can just dot the concealer in the areas you need and be on your way.
4. Translucent Powder
For all my oily skin people out there, listen carefully! This easy-to-carry powder will save your life over and over again. Due to it being translucent, it works on all skin colors and mattes any oily areas on your face. I always use this last to seal everything down and make it as natural looking as possible. I can not live without the Mary Kay Translucent Powder which gives me that finished look without looking cakey.
5. Blush
Whether it be powder or cream, invest in some. Blush should always be a natural look for the cheeks so try out different types to see which kind works better for your skin. Even on the darkest of days, a fresh flush is the perfect way to perk up your day.
6. Waterproof Mascara
If there is one product that I can not leave the house without, it’s my mascara. This completely changes any look. You will be amazed at how much brighter your eyes will look after you apply this either by itself or with a specific eye look. If you are going to wear mascara, make it waterproof. That way you are always prepared for what every life throws at you.
7. Eyeliner
Regardless of whatever color you so choose to wear, eyeliner is a must. Depending on how long you have worked with eyeliner and your own personal preference, you can go for different types like pencil, powder or liquid. You can transform any daytime look to night time by smudging it or giving it a wing.
8. A Basic Eyeshadow
Depending on your own personal taste, your shadow can either barely be seen or can make you look like the newest member of KISS. A perfect eye shadow tip is to know that the correct everyday colors for you are just a few shades darker than your skin tone. For night looks, that’s when you begin to pull more colors to create bright or smoky looks.
