It's officially spring! The snow is melting, the trees have buds, and the birds are chirping outside your window again. Before April showers bring you May flowers, here are some essential makeup products you need for this spring.
1. A good highlighter.
A shimmering face powder will help you achieve dewy, bright skin. Personally I love MAC's Mineralize Skinfinish in "Soft and Gentle" for a golden highlight that carries well into the summer and works for virtually any look. Although this product is a little pricey, a little goes a long way- I've used mine daily for over two years and there's hardly a dent!
MAC Mineralize Skinfinish - $32
2. A light, shimmery eyeshadow.
Now that winter has passed, it's time to put away the smokey eye until next fall. It's great to have some colors in your kit that will brighten your eyes and keep you looking fresh. For this, I'd recommend the Covergirl Eye Enhancers 3-Kit Shadows in "Shimmering Sands" if you have a warmer complexion or "Cafe Au Lait" for anyone who wants a cool-toned shimmer. I'd like to note that the quality of these shadows is AMAZING for the price.
Covergirl Eye Enhancers 3-Kid Shadows - $4.50 (prices vary by store and location)
3. A peach blush.
A warm glow to the cheeks looks great on anyone. Although I haven't tried any of their blushes yet, Milani has a range of baked blushes that are rated highly and raved about online- not to mention they are vegan and can be purchased at popular drugstore retailers like Target.
Milani Baked Blush - $8.49 (prices vary by store and location)
4. A nice brow kit.
Eye brows are a commonly overlooked part of many makeup routines. Lightly filling them in with a powder or shaping them with a clear mascara can frame the face in a really lovely way. I highly recommend the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder Duo. I use the shade "Medium Brown" and the two colors it comes with are versatile enough to wear with my hair when it's dark brown or even back when it was blonde a few months ago. I've had mine for over a year and just hit pan on it this week- it's a must-have in every makeup bag.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder Duo - $23
5. Buildable mascaras.
I find that it's convenient to have some mascaras with me that can layer on themselves to create bolder looks, or do the job with one coat for a lighter look. I'm still on the hunt for my dream mascara, but the Covergirl "Full Lash Bloom" and "LashBlast Fusion" mascaras work well. I'd even recommend using them on top of each other for a full lash effect.
Covergirl Full Lash Bloom Mascara - $7.99 (Prices vary by store and location)
Covergirl LashBlast Fusion Mascara - $8.99 (Prices vary by store and location)
6. A pinky-peach lip gloss.
This is the perfect "my lips but better" color. It looks great with many skin tones and will partner well with a dewy makeup look. There are a lot on the market, but I love my Mary Kay NouriShine Plus Lip Goss in "Cafe Au Lait" and the NYX Cosmetics Butter Gloss in "Peaches and Cream."
Mary Kay NouriShine Plus Lip Gloss - $15
NYX Cosmetics Butter Gloss - $5 (Prices vary by store and location)
This spring, break away from the winter colors and have fun with your makeup!
