Alright, Thanksgiving is over and our tummies are stuffed with turkey, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie. This means I have now been granted the ability to bring out the twinkling lights and spread some gosh darn holiday cheer! That being said, do you know what one of my absolute favorite things about the holiday is? Gingerbread houses of course! Gingerbread creations are some of the most deliciously creative traditions that I cannot get enough of. Who doesn’t love a nice old fashioned simple gingerbread house? However, what’s even cooler than an adorable little cottage with gumdrop shingles and candy cane archways? Giant, nerdy works of spiced genius! I’ve scoured the internet to bring you the cream of the crop with my favorite homemade gingerbread masterpieces. So it’s time to grab that rolling pin and bring out the icing and become inspired to create your very own gingerbread works of art!

1. The Burrows from Harry Potter

The Burrows is probably one of my favorite locations in the Harry Potter universe. It’s so interesting and innovative both inside and out! It seems that A Can of Crafty Curiosities thought it was pretty awesome as well since they decided to create a gorgeous replica of the Weasley’s humble abode out of delicious gingerbread! I wonder if there is a gingerbread replica of the infamous “Weasley Clock” inside. We certainly need to keep track of our little “ginger bred” family!

2. Serenity from Firefly

You can’t take these sweets from me! This festive gingerbread replica of Serenity was created by a very big “Firefly” fan named Kristoffer Gressli. My favorite part about this gingerbread work of art is the attention to detail, outlining the edges of the ship with little icicles. I can just imagine Kaylee making this a gingerbread ship just like this, that is if the show ever did a Holiday special. You can check out more pictures outlining the making of Serenity on Gressli’s Facebook page. Although it does not go into detail on the one thing I am most curious about. How did he make such perfectly cylindrical gingerbread?

3. Bob’s Burgers and
Family

Katharina over at aprettycakemachine.com channeled her inner Linda for the inspiration to create this surprisingly accurate depiction of the Belcher family restaurant complete with the family themselves! The only thing this gingerbread restaurant is missing is the ever changing storefront next door. My personal would be “Fleece Navidad: Ugly Sweater Emporium.”

4. The TARDIS from Doctor Who

After the release of the trailer for the 2016 Doctor Who Christmas Special I have been in the Holiday spirit and this gingerbread house certainly helps with the Hype! This TARDIS is complete with snow, colorful strings of lights, a festive wreath, and most importantly the bluest blue ever. A big thank you to reddit user FortuneKitty for creating this fantastic gingerbread TARDIS!

5. The Baggins Residence

No acceptance except on holiday business! Reddit user Gluverty recreates a little piece of the Shire with his wonderful gingerbread creation. This gingerbread hobbit hole would fit right in at Bag End. However, I am sure it wouldn’t last long past Elevenses. It would probably make a pretty nice treat for Second Breakfast as well. Either way, this adorable gingerbread structure is something that anyone would enjoy.

6. USS Enterprise from Star Trek

We will certainly go where no cookie has gone before in an out of this world gingerbread recreation of the USS Enterprise brought to us by the Black Market Bakery. They even had the ingenious idea of creating a tractor beam out of candy canes, which is an incredible touch that adds a lot to the design. Their attention to detail and creativity has brought us to strange, new, icing coated worlds to explore their many gumdrop and sugar plum inhabitants.

7. An AT-AT from Star Wars

Another fantastic creation from our friends over at the Black Market Bakery. This time, they’ve gone to a long time ago, into a galaxy far far away to bring us the colossal (and adorable) AT-AT made out of our favorite medium, gingerbread. Yet again the bakery’s attention to detail does not cease to amaze. They’ve recreated the Battle of Hoth by showing the Imperial Walker leaving an ever growing trail of destruction in it’s path. All is not lost though since it seems that our little gingerbread rebel has begun a sneak attack to stop the rampage bringing around the most delicious aftermath I could think of!

8. Hogwarts Castle

Our final stop on our journey through the nerdiest gingerbread lands is an absolutely incredible feat. Reddit user louisesiuol has really brought the wizarding world alive with their rendition of the Hogwarts Gingerbread School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. This masterpiece is by far and away the most incredible and intricate one I have seen. Any gingerbread witch or wizard would be honored to attend!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
