8 College Party Themes That Everyone Should Try This Year

It's that time of year. Colleges across the country kick off syllabus week with a "celebration" of sorts, typically with a theme. Sure we've seen the luaus and the jersey parties but what about something creative? Something that is not only memorable but totally Instagram worthy? Here are eight party ideas that everyone should try this year.

1. Holiday Party

Everyone dresses up as their favorite holiday. Mothers Day, Hanukkah, National Corn Dog Day, you name it. If it's a holiday you can dress up as it. Really easy to get creative with this one.

2. Meme Party

If you're like me, you enjoy seeing the random things that get turned into national sensations. Why not make a party out of it? I know Harambe and Pepe would feel proud to see someone dressed up just like them.

3. Food Fight Party

This one is kinda gross. Before the party you would be assigned to two teams and from there you would hang out until it's time to fight. A super fun way to get to know people and throw food around.

4. Alcoholic Novels/Movie Party

Basically you dress up as the characters from your favorite novel or movie but you put a slightly boozy twist on it. Tequila Mockingbird, Adventures of Huckleberry Gin, Hundred Beers of Solitude... you name it. If it's a good book you can always attach a drink to it.

5. Graffiti Party

This one is pretty simple. Everyone wears a white shirt and brings markers or fabric paint. From there people go around and mark what they want on peoples shirts. You can draw artwork or funny quotes and by the end of the night, you would have a shirt full of funny memories.

6. Game of Thrones Party

This may be incredibly nerdy, but I recently have started Game of Thrones and I'm one hundred percent obsessed with the show. Dress as someone from the Stark or Lannister family and drink to the victories of the reign as you play games and pet dragons.

7. Presidential Debate Party

This is more of a first semester kind of party. You either go as a Clinton or a Trump, each side brings a sweet or salty snack and you play games about the events going on in the debate. Play pin the tail on the Democrat (get it cause their symbols are the donkey) and converse about who might win in November.

8. Infamous TV Characters Party

The concept is simple.... take your favorite character from a TV show and dress as that character. You could be Jess from New Girl or Tanisha from Bad Girls Club (as shown above) or any character that you like. The Instagram captions would be amazing and it would be a good time for everyone.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
