Having a girls night in, or just being in the presence of yourself, no matter how many times you have seen them--cheesy chick-flicks are a must-have! They often take our minds off of the high stress of school, relationships, and work, and put our minds at ease into the interesting lives of the fictitious. Here are nine of my favorite timeless chick flicks that you definitely need to watch!
1. "Sleepover"
A classic 2004 film, starring Alexa Vega ("Spy Kids"), as her and her closest friends have an action-packed night filled with a picture scavenger hunt against the mean girl clique. An overwhelming amount of dad-puns, a pre-pubescent love story, and a homecoming dance are included for free. So so good.
2. "17 Again"
Matthew Perry magically turning into his black-leather-jacket-wearing-convertible-driving-light-saber-fighting-flip-haired-17-year-old-Zac-Efron-self? Sign me up!
3. "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants"
This darling tale tells the intertwining story of four best friends who miraculously fit into the same pair of jeans, as they document their summer vacations while wearing the magical pants. The movie does an amazing job of seamlessly combining heavy themes such as loss and terminal illness, as well as sentimental topics such as love, friendship and freedom.
4. "A Cinderella Story"
This fairytale flick displays the hard-working and selfless life of Sam, the diner girl living with her evil stepmother and stepsisters, after her father tragically passes away. Prince Charming Austin Ames gives every teenage girl the hope of finding an intellectual and gorgeous guy, and Hilary Duff proves that you don't need everything in life in order to be happy, what matters is surrounding yourself with people who truly love and appreciate you for being you.
5. "Something Borrowed"
This pick is a fairly recent 2011 romantic comedy, that presents one of the most stereotypical plots in all of cheesy romantic comedy movie history. Still, this star-studded cast creates an entertaining piece of work that conveys a strong message that we all need to embrace: If you like somebody...TELL THEM! This movie truly presents the importance (and dangers) of honesty, timing and trust in relationships with others. Definitely a must-see.
6. "New York Minute"
I would like to first start off by saying I have seen every Mary-Kate and Ashley movie ever created, multiple times.
That being said, "New York Minute" tells the story of the lives of complete opposite twins, Roxy and Jane, amidst an extremely busy and important day in the bustling city. This final Olsen Twins film keeps you engaged, laughing, and feeling sorry for the unlucky pair the entire way through. Two Olsen twins up.
7. "She's The Man"
The (always) lovable Amanda Bynes stars in the full-screen adaptation of Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night," as she temporarily takes the identity of her collegiate soccer playing older brother in order to defy her mother and bend stereotypical gender norms. Also, Channing Tatum shirtless...that is all.
8. "Nancy Drew"
In this 2007 film adaptation of the beloved cherished book series, Emma Roberts stars in the title role as she cracks the case of a mysterious mansion with a famous history. I have seen this movie so many times that I can quote it! Everything from Nancy's dainty moccasins and little annoying Corky to Nana's Lemon Bars and adorable Ned will have you trying to solve this puzzling yet heart-warming case.
9. "A Walk to Remember"
My #1 favorite movie in the entire world is Nicholas Sparks' beloved film adaptation depicting the redemption of an rebellious teenager, as he falls in love with a Pastor's daughter, who is hiding a debilitating secret. One of the most heartbreaking, and utterly beautiful love stories to ever exist, this flick completely captures the significance of treasuring life daily and sharing selfless love. Tissues required.
