8 Bible Verses For Those Facing A Difficult Time
Taylor Markee

Everyone faces struggles at some point in their life. The Bible is the one place that I always turn to when I am face to face with a battle. The Bible is something I can open up and find guidance for any situation I am faced with. There is a saying by Charles Spurgeon that says "A bible that is falling apart usually belongs to someone who isn't." That quote really hits home for me this summer because I felt like everything in my life was falling apart, and the only way I fixed that feeling was by opening my bible and spending time with God. Here are a few of the bible quotes that I found that really helped me this summer.

1. Jesus replied "You do not realize now what I am doing but later you will understand" -John 13:7

This quote has been my favorite bible quote since I was 13. I am guilty of trying to figure out the reasoning behind every hard situation God places me in. I have learned through the years that there is some stuff that I am just meant to not understand. This bible quote is comforting because it shows us that God does have a plan.

2. "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light" -Matthew 11:28-30

This is a reassuring quote and reminds anyone going through a difficult time that all you have to do to find rest is turn to God. We are not meant to carry these burdens on our own and God is always there to comfort us, and help no matter what. God can give us rest that no one else can. He is powerful, and supplies the rest we need from the hectic moments life undoubtedly gives us.

3. "But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefor I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me." -2 Cor 12:9

God's grace is a powerful thing. No matter how weak you feel, or how badly you think you have messed up, God is always there to give us grace. When we are at our weakest point, that is when God supplies us with his grace and strength. He has strength to bestow on us, when we don't have our own. God is a shelter for us to rest on.

4. "Even though I walk through the darkest valley of death, I will not fear because I know my God is with me. He will never leave me or forsake me." -Psalms 23:4

We are bound to have dark days. No one is promised a struggle free life. At times it is hard to be completely fearless, but there definitely is a certain amount of comfort knowing that we aren't facing the "dark" times alone. God will never leave His children.

5."I will not cause pain without allowing something new to be born, says the Lord" Isaiah 66:9

This summer, I have faced enough pain and struggle to last me a while. This bible quote is one that helped me to remember that even though I might be hurting right now, it is all going to pay off because one day soon, I will feel better. God doesn't like to see us in pain, but He knows that the pain we are going through, will help us grow into the people He has created us to be.

6. "I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain move from here to there and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." -Matthew 17:20

I remember receiving this bible quote from a friend the day before my surgery and it comforted me in ways I didn't think possible. I was naturally freaking out and as I read the verse, I felt a sense of calmness come over me. God was reminding me ultimately through this quote that "nothing is impossible for me." Nothing is impossible with God on your side.

7. "The Lord will fight for you, you need only to be still" -Exodus 14:14

Like I said before, we aren't meant to fight battles on our own. Humans are only capable of bearing so much, and the only way to get through trying times is to turn to God. If we give our problems to God He will fight for us, it is all just a matter of trusting in Him.

8. "And pray in the spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep praying for all the Lord's people." -Ephesians 6:18

I saved this one for last, because it's the best. My favorite book in the bible is Ephesians. I have read it a few times, and I feel like I learn something new every time I read it. This quote is beautiful because it reminds us to pray pretty much everyday no matter how we are feeling, or what we are facing. God wants us to pray on the good days, just as much as He wants us to pray on the bad days. We can take anything to God and He will listen to us. When I was facing surgery, I had a lot of people praying for me and I know that is what helped me pull through strong, and recover quickly. I believe strongly in the power of prayer, and I think it's something important that can benefit people greatly.

I hope that these bible verses can help you just as much as they have helped me. No one is save from struggles of life, but with a little help from friends and Jesus. Anything is possible.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
