Maybe your spring break plans fell through, maybe you're not trying to spend all your money on a vacation right now, or maybe you really don't mind just chilling out at home for break. Regardless, there are so many reasons why staying at home is a completely wonderful way to spend spring break. Despite the occasional awkward run-in with people from high school, at least you won't be getting awkward tan lines!

Here are the eight best things about spending your spring break at home:

1. Showering

Until approximately three hours ago, I had completely forgotten that a world of showering without shoes existed. No more weird noises coming from two feet away, separated by a two inch tile. Lastly, my personal favorite, you know that any hair in the shower is yours and that’s fantastic!

2. Bed

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a person who is big on bashing dorm life, but I missed my bed. My dorm layout makes it impossible to not hit my head on a closet or bookshelf at least once a night. Plus, who doesn’t love their own bed?

3. Parents

This one is pretty self explanatory. Even though you're an adult now, who is totally capable of being independent, it is admittedly really nice to have home-cooked meals and suddenly all clean laundry. Not to mention, they can be pretty fun to be around.

4. Everything Just Smelling Better?

I think it’s just because dorms are so compact that everything starts to feel stuffy after a while. Spending the winter unable to open a window and experience fresh air is a big change from being at my well-ventilated home for spring break.

5. Candles

Dorms don't allow candles, which I found out after carefully wrapping four and bringing them with me the first day, only to be told they were forbidden. (I know, I shouldn't have only skim-read the "Not to Bring" list that was emailed to me.) So, a big plus for me is being home and having one flickering.

6. Driving

As a Freshman who is not allowed to have a car on campus, getting to drive again is the best! Familiar roads with the right music is always a great way to enjoy the nice weather.

7. Hometown Friends

Even if you’re not super close with all your old high school friends, catching up with a few over break can be a nice way to stay in touch. Especially if you have friends going to school in interesting places, it's awesome to hear their experiences and maybe find out you want to come visit sometime!

8. Pets

The unconditional love of pets is something humankind does not deserve. There’s no better feeling than coming home to your pet and them being so excited to see you. I only have a fish, but you better believe he’s swimming circles when he sees me!

Feel free to share what some of your favorite things are about being home for break!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
