We all know that applications on our iPhones can be lifesavers. But what apps should you consider downloading to make it easier to get through your college career? Look no further; I've got you covered.
1)
W&M: This app is chock full of information specific to William & Mary. It allows you to check grades, dining hall hours, bus schedules, athletic info and much more. You can access Blackboard from the app, but I highly recommend NOT downloading the actual Blackboard application. It’s unhelpful and just a waste of space on your phone.
2)
Uber: Need a ride because you don’t want to walk too far or because you feel even the slightest bit uneasy going home alone? First off, don’t go home alone. That’s a terrible idea. Second, Uber is a great way to avoid that. It’s über cheap for those stereotypical broke college students.
3)
Venmo: If you owe a friend for the Wawa mac n’ cheese they bought you last night, Venmo is the perfect app for you. You can send money straight from your bank account to a friend's bank account simply by typing in the amount you owe. It’s user-friendly and is also great for splitting rent without having to pull out the old checkbook.
4)
PhotoMath: If you’re like me, math is the ultimate struggle. Use this application to take a photo of a difficult math problem and find the answer! The catch is that it doesn’t show you how to work through the equation. It is helpful for checking answers, though.
5)
Find My iPhone: This one is pretty self-explanatory. When your night out just didn’t go as well as planned, use this app to locate your lost, pocket-sized baby (on which you have all these useful apps). You can use your computer to pinpoint your phone by exchanging signals and finding it at its approximate location.
6)
Quizlet: Education on the go! Woo! The popular Quizlet website is also an app. When you have five minutes until your big exam and are running out of Swem, use your Quizlet app on the way to class. But remember, no texting and walking. Be careful not to trip and faceplant.
7)
Rave Guardian: This is a useful way to connect to parents and loved ones when you find yourself in trouble. You can set a timer before going into an unsafe area. It will alert the police if you do not confirm you are safe in a set amount of time. Although you may not find yourself in an unsafe situation in Williamsburg often, I highly recommend this app. Bad things can happen anywhere. That doesn’t exclude low-crime cities or towns. Always walk with a buddy and have your Rave Guardian application on hand.
8)
Drunk Mode: You know that guy (or girl) that you drunk text every time you go out? Worry no more. Drunk Mode is here to prevent some regrets. It can’t stop you from dancing on tables, unfortunately. You can put a timer on and prevent yourself from contacting certain people while you’re intoxicated. The app makes you solve a math problem to unlock the timer, just in case you were trying to be sneaky and get past your sober self.
In an age when we are completely dependent on technology it is important to have the most updated phone applications to make our lives easier. From homework help to safety precautions, apps can allow us to spend less time worrying about grades or our well-being and more time as college kids.
