If you’re lucky, your significant other goes to college with you! I am not so lucky, sadly we go to different schools. That doesn’t stop me from thinking about potential date ideas around Boone. And since it is winter time, why not share my winter date ideas with you?

A Winter Wonderland Photoshoot

This is Boone! It’s gonna snow during the winter, and sometimes during the spring but let’s not talk about that. All that snow is good for more than just getting us all out of early morning classes. It’s good to take a cute photoshoot with your significant other I’m a sucker for candid photos (and wish I had more of them) and beautiful snowy scene is the perfect opportunity to get some fun and romantic pictures.

Learn to Ski at the Appalachian Ski Mountain

I have never been skiing, learning with my boyfriend would be a lot of fun! But also very scary, as are most new experiences! You and your significant other can hit slopes if you already know how to ski and try those bunny slopes if you’re newbies.

Get Up and Sweat It Out at the SRC

When it’s super cold outside it can be hard to convince yourself to go to the gym. I, personally, refuse to workout unless I’m at the gym. So trying to stick to my routine when the wind chill is in the single digits is awfully hard. But I think having a gym buddy would help me get out of my dorm a lot easier. Who’s a better gym buddy than your significant other! Challenge each other to push your limits while working out at the SRC.

Be a Little Basic At Basic

Did you know you can do more than ski at Appalachian Ski Mountain? You can go ice skating! I haven’t been ice skating since I was a little girl and would love to go again with my boyfriend, even if I fall down and embarrass myself. Or stay home and wrap up in blankets and sip on hot chocolate while watching a movie! These things might be corny but they are a great way to spend time with your significant other.

Crack Open A Cookbook

Or find a winter recipe on Pinterest! If you’re stuck indoors due to the cold you’ll still have to eat! Instead of ordering take out, why not try a hand at making dinner with your significant other. Not only can it be very romantic, it can also be delicious!

Go Pet Alpacas

Okay so this one is located in Banner Elk, not in Boone. But it’s still apart of the High Country right? Apple Hill Farm has alpacas, donkeys, llamas, and goats and their farm is very picturesque, you and your significant other can take cute photos with the animals! Make sure to bundle up!

Paint Pottery at Paint Your Wings

This will always be an amazing date idea, not matter the season. Paint Your Wings is located at New Market Center here in Boone! You can paint all sorts of items! Painting is incredibly relaxing, and it’s not about being good at it! It’s about having fun!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
