This will come to no surprise to my family and friends, I am a very picky eater. I basically have the appetite of a small child and never stray far from what I know and what I like. To me this has never been a negative thing, yes I wish I ate healthier, yes I wish it wasn't a hassle for my family sometimes, but this is just something that I am. The older I get I do find myself trying new things every once in a while, but usually, my taste buds do not agree. When I was younger I thought this was just a phase that I was going through and I would eventually grow out of it. I think sometimes people believe that I choose to be a picky eater, and well there is a small bit of truth with this but also sometimes it's not. These are 7 truths that I have discovered about being a picky eater, as an adult.
1. The Kids Menu
This is where it's at, almost every restaurant has a kids menu and usually, they have the same exact things. This makes the options limited but so are your preferences. You and the menu have become best friends. Chicken Tenders and Grilled Cheese? Yes. This menu usually has an age limit and honestly as long you don't care about ordering off it, what's the big deal? You like the food, the meals are cheaper, and the portions are usually smaller. It's a better option than not eating or wasting food you won't eat. I've never come across many obstacles when ordering off it. Most places don't care and the one's who do will usually offer the adult portion.
2. Grocery Shopping is Cheap
Trips to the grocery store are very quick and cheap. You know what you like and usually, the grocery bill will never exceed $30. The cart may look like you have a child at home but really who cares. Haters gonna hate. Cereal can be dinner.
3. Scoping The Menu
Ugh, okay this is a struggle, sometimes you need to glance at the menu before you eat there but just do, it takes like five minutes and that way when you get there, no awkward searching will kill the hungry mood.
4. Dinner Dates
I'm a cheap date. You will never have to drop $40 for a steak or lobster dinner. I'm a burger and fries kinda girl.
5. Cooking
I can cook every single thing I eat. That might not be saying a lot but it definitely says something right? Because of my unique pallet, I am able to prepare myself meals and I never have to Google how to saute kale or whatever it is you do with kale. Seriously, though, kale?
6. I Enjoy Every Meal
A meteor could hit the earth tomorrow, the ozone could disappear completely and we could all become crispy fried bones in minutes. Every time I eat out, I eat my favorite meal. I eat one of my favorite foods and I never get disappointed by my choice or regret ordering a dish.
7. I Realize What I Eat
I'm not taking long walks down the vegetable aisle. I don't want to eat a salad. I don't want to try this curry dish that looks like orange gravel. While I do often get anxiety about eating out with new people or at a new restaurant often just explain that just because I;m picky doesn't mean I sit and eat junk food all day long, I really don't even like fast food that much. This is just the way I am and I while I could choose to make myself eat polenta wraps, I rather eat what I like and what I want. So since this isn't your body and not your life, I'm just gonna sit here and eat my kids meal, thanks.
