1. First things first, WE TRY TO BE ON TIME.
When things are important, or when we know that we absolutely need to be on time, people who are late do try to be on time. That usually involves ten alarms signaling when you need to start getting ready, and every single step that needs to be completed before leaving. Obviously this never works out…but when you are already categorized as a “late person” you do have a reputation to uphold.
2. But when we are on time it is the worse experience ever.
During the rare occasion of actually being on time, let it be know that IT IS TORTUROUS. Everyone knows the first five minutes of any event, class, or work shift, would be better spent by getting coffee or just escaping the general awkwardness that prompt arrivals tend to bring. So let it be know that if, as a late person, you ever arrive on time that is most definitely going to be a one-time thing.
3. Even though we are always late, we can get ready really, really fast.
I’m not late because it took me an hour to figure out what to wear – okay maybe that’s the reason why I’m late sometimes – I am just late because the universe is never on my side. Like I got up five minutes early and was dressed by seven, but I could not get my contact in for ten minutes. Getting ready quickly is just an acquired talent. Oh, and also I was probably late because being on time hurts my heart and I got really into an episode of Curious George.
4. People who are late tend to have everything imaginable in their car/purse.
When you need to change your outfit, brush your hair, and fix your make-up in the ten minutes it takes you to get from point A to point B you tend to be overly-prepared. But who doesn’t need a lint roller and Tide To-Go in their glove compartment? It is way more useful than that manual will ever be.
5. Lateness runs in the family.
After being late to every appointment, school day, and dance recital ever while you were growing up you tend to stop caring about prompt arrivals. Of course for a majority of your childhood you were probably frustrated at your mother for taking two hours to do her hair…but that resentment eventually resulted in your tendency to take extra time for granted.
6. Late people know the hours for every store and the number of minutes it takes to get there.
Closing time comes around a lot earlier than you would think, and chances are you have already waited until the last minute to get whatever to need.
7. Your friends tell you the wrong time purposefully to ensure that you are not late.
Their fake times tend to range from being 15 minutes to an hour earlier than the actual starting point of the occasion. While your friends have good intensions, you still struggle to arrive on time - mainly because you know (or think you know) that they are trying to trick you into earliness.
