It was a sad week for "Harry Potter" fanatics like myself. The unexpected passing of Alan Rickman brought on many memories of the actor portraying everyone's favorite (or least favorite if you happen to be sorted into Gryffindor) potions professor. So here are the best moments when professor Snape made us love him, hate him, laugh and cry:
1. When he told the first year potions students to turn to page 394
Although in this moment Professor Snape called out Harry hardcore and immediately made enemies with all the Gryffindor students, it's the first real encounter Harry ever had with Snape. Whether you were reading the book or watching the movie, at that point we all hated Snape. Little did we know.
2. When he totally demolished Professor Lockhart in Dueling Club
I think we can all agree that during "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets," the only professor we hated more than Snape was Gilderoy Lockhart. Lockhart was as arrogant as he was incompetent, and he totally had it coming.
3. When Harry, Ron and Hermione were convinced Snape was trying to kill Harry during his quiddich match, but he was actually trying to save him
Not only did Snape save Harry's life, he was also the only one at Hogwarts who saw right through Professor Quirrell and basically protected Hogwarts from Voldemort's return.
4. When he didn't give two craps about anything Professor Umbridge tried to do
In true Snape fashion, he quietly stood up to Dolores Umbridge, who is arguably the worst person in the entire wizarding world. He even went so far as to keep the school's supply of Veritaserum, a powerful truth serum, a secret from Umbridge after she tried to obtain it to use on students.
5. When the boggart came out as Snape dressed in Neville's grandma's clothes
OK, so this isn't technically a Snape moment (hence the boggart), but it was pretty funny.
6. When he lead Harry to the sword of Gryffindor
Props for pulling one over on Bellatrix L'Estrange and leading Harry to the real sword with a patronus. This was the moment when we all realized that without Snape's help, Harry likely wouldn't have been able to destroy all the horcruxes.
7. How he always fought for what was right, even though he was always the underdog
Professor Snape certainly didn't have the easiest life, but no matter what happened he never stopped fighting for good. He sacrificed his own life to do what was right and help Harry out of love for Lily Potter, even after she was gone.
Alan Rickman brought Severus Snape to life as one of the most beloved yet misunderstood characters in "Harry Potter." And like Severus Snape, while he is gone, he will never be forgotten.
