7 Thoughts You Had Over Thanksgiving Break

Turkey Day is known to result in some interesting moments.

And with that, one of the most traditional American holiday breaks is officially over. Students, you’re probably excited about the final stretch of the semester (of course, I’m just kidding). But before that happens, let’s throw it back a little bit to recap your holiday break. Here are 7 thoughts you may have had during this time.

1. “It’s getting late; I’m gonna miss my flight back home just like I’ve been missing class.”

Classic. Those of you who had to fly out of town for vacation, to get back home or for whatever the reason may be, maybe if you missed your flight back home, then look at the positives while you spend time spent around for the next one. If you have a tendency to procrastinate all the time (like I unfortunately do), then this could be a wakeup call to change. And with less than a month before finals week, I’d say now is the time to make such improvements.

2. “Time to go out; it’s the night before Thanksgiving.”

I, for one, have never been the type to go out to a party on the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving. I’ve always preferred to wake up on that Thursday morning to watch the Thanksgiving Parade in NYC. But if you had a late night, then we won’t try to wake you up too early. After all, we should be thankful that there’s no need to.

3. “I’m full (and so is my plate.)”

Rule-breakers. Didn’t you remember what your momma taught you — only take what you can eat? But boy, that turkey was too good. If you have a pet in the house, then hey, free food.

4. “It’s 6:00! It’s getting late! Gotta go to the mall to get that awesome deal before Black Friday begins.”

Now this is just sad; I hope you won’t miss out on one of the year’s most wonderful family holidays just to get a Black Friday deal before Friday. I’m not going to give any of the stores that will be open on Thanksgiving any added publicity here by naming them. I’m just going to say that if you do decide to shop on Turkey Day, then please be safe. Rumor has it that some stampedes in recent years have turned out to be deadly.

5. “Belly-ache! I should’ve had less desert last night.”

Ok, tell me, did you hog the desert table by any chance? Or maybe, you just couldn’t resist the extra cheesecake and cookies. In any case, it looks like karma got you good. Ouch!

6. “Alright, it’s time to get back to work.”

All good things must come to an end, including the time off from schoolwork. This is, after all, the final stretch. So, we need to hit the books. Just one more paper to finish and I’m done!

7. “So not looking forward to classes tomorrow.”

I feel you; I’m in the same ship every Sunday evening after Thanksgiving. Hey, at least Christmas (or Hanukkah) isn’t too far away, right? That is basically my whole motivation for the final weeks of the fall semester to keep up the hard work.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
