All your friends are either getting full-time jobs, having babies, or getting engaged. While the other half is in jail, doing drugs, or getting drunk every night of the week. Mean while you are in school, still working at the same job you had in high school, and single. It's not a bad thing to fall behind the others and here's why;
1. Just take school at your own pace.
I should be in my third year of college as of Fall 2017. I am only in my second year and I'm okay with that. Don't rush yourself. Most of my friends are getting ready to graduate and that's great for them, but I will get there. As Elle Woods says, "You can't jump to the end, the journey is the best part.
2. Stay single as long as you can
I just got out of a two-year relationship. I started seeing this boy when I was 18 and I am now 20. I thought this was a serious relationship and I missed out on times that should've been good. Instead, I was acting like a 30-year-old married woman. Stay single in your 20's, go to fun events, date many people, and never settle.
3. If you are dating, don't lose yourself.
The biggest issues with relationships are that people will drop everything else in their lives for their significant other. Don't forget who your friends are, don't slack off in school, and don't become something you aren't.
4. Stay in shape
The freshman 15 is not real people. Just because you're away at school does not mean it's okay to eat like an animal. Get up in the morning and go for a run around the block or join your school's local gym. Just because you live on campus doesn't mean you have to become a slob.
5. Go to any major event
I am a homebody, so if you're like me and don't enjoy parties, this one might not be for you. But I do enjoy going to an occasional party. So if you get the invite, just go. Even if it's only for an hour or two. You don't want to look back and remember your 20's as sitting indoors just watching Netflix.
6. Take that job
If you get a job that has to do anything with your profession, take it. Don't let anything stop you. If you have to move, do it. If you have to lose a few people than leave them behind. If this has anything that can give you a brighter future than take that job.
7. Remove toxic friends
Just because you have been friends with someone since high school does not mean you need to bring them into your adult life. If you aren't anything alike and have no common interest, just leave them in the past. You are going to want friends you can build a life with.
