Moving in my sorority house was one of the most scary and exciting experiences I’ve ever had. On the one hand, I knew I’d be able to live with all of my closest friends which would obviously be amazing. On the other hand, it’s a house with 100 or more girls living in it…need I say more about how terrifying that sounds? Lucky for me, I have zero regrets about moving into my house and I can say that I’ve enjoyed all of it—the good, the bad, the ugly. Here are seven things you’ll only understand if you’ve lived in:
1. Hair. Everywhere.
This was something I never thought of before I moved into the house, but in hindsight, it makes perfect sense. Everyone’s long, beautiful hair gets absolutely everywhere—in the showers, in the washers and dryers, and in pretty much every little nook and cranny.
2. 100 more wardrobes to pick from.
There will be no shortage of outfit options to pick from with so many of your sisters’ closets up for grabs. Whether you need a dress for formal or just to try on a pair of jeans you’re thinking about buying, there is always something to borrow.
3. 100 more curling irons to choose from.
Along the same line of having endless clothes to pick from, there is no shortage of hair tools to use, so your odds of your hair being on fleek go up exponentially. But beware—if you leave your straightener in the bathroom, someone is sure to use it.
4. Sleeping porches.
Easily the most nerve-wracking part of moving into a sorority house for me was the sleeping porch. Even though it sounds terrifying to sleep with 30 or more other girls, it actually isn’t nearly as bad as it sounds. It’s always cold and dark so you’re practically guaranteed a good night’s sleep. And there’s the added bonus of learning who snores and sleep talks.
5. You find ways to label everything.
It’s no surprise that this many girls who have enough in common to be in the same sorority have tons of the same items. You learn lots of creative ways to label your water bottle, phone charger, and that pair of leggings everyone seems to have.
6. It’s basically living in a hotel with all your best friends.
The best way I can describe living in a sorority to my friends who haven’t is that it feels like living in a hotel with your closest friends. A cleaner, a cook, and beautiful decorations and furniture—what else could you ask for?
7. You get 10 times closer to the girls in your house.
Living in the house is such a unique experience because you get to know everyone unbelievably well, including all the quirky little things people do or their daily routine. Plus there is always someone around to hang out with or talk to.
