7 Things You Need To Do During the First Week of Classes

Where did summer go? How is it possible that school is just around the corner? It feels like it was just yesterday that we all barely survived finals week. Well, Just because summer is over doesn't mean you have to stress about the little thing (not yet at least). Here are some things you can do during your first week of classes.

Make sure you know when/where ALL of your classes are

One of the most awkward moments in college is walking into Calculus 101 instead of British Literature. Do yourself a favor and take a quick walk around campus to familiarize yourself with each building.

Go over the syllabus!

I can't emphasize this enough. READ YOUR SYLLABUS! Yes, you will more than likely go over it in class but it will be your life line this semester so you might as well get used to it.

Update your planner

Writing in your planner feels almost as satisfying as picking one. As soon as you get a copy of your syllabus, write down any important dates such as exams, class cancellations, due dates, etc. Color code it, Post-it the crap out of it, do anything you want!

Clean your room!

Didn't listen to your mom about cleaning your room? Yeah, me neither but turns out, she knew something we didn't (and that's just about everything). Studies have shown that someone is likely to be more productive if their bedroom is clean. What better way to start off the semester than feeling fully motivated by doing something so simple!

Go school supply shopping

Second to Christmas, this is my favorite time of year. Call me a nerd, but there is no better feeling than seeing Back-to-School displays. TIP: This primarily applies to freshman, but you more than likely won't have nearly as many supplies as you did in high school. Make it simple and get pens, pencils, and notebook until your professor says otherwise.

Skim through your textbook

There is absolutely no harm in getting a head start in class and look through your book. It'll literally will only take 15-20 minutes. Just do it.

Get some sleep

Most importantly, get a good night's sleep. You always want to make a good first impression and sleeping in class during the first week is definitely NOT the best way to do that. If you have trouble sleeping, drink chamomile tea or just go for some good ol' ZzzQuil.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
