If you are blessed, you have someone that you call your best friend. I know that I don’t stop and take the time to thank my best friend for everything she does for me. So that’s what I am doing now. Here are seven of the many things I want to thank my best friend for.

  1. Thanks for being my safe place- This is a scary world. People hurt people every day. Thanks for being someone I know is safe. You won’t hurt me. I can tell you everything. Every crazy thought and you never once judge me. I can share all of my problems with you and you willingly listen and offer comfort or advice. You are a place I can come and know that it’s safe to feel what I am actually feeling. I can take my mask off and not have to worry about your reaction to what you see underneath it.
  2. Thanks for the fun- WOW, we have had some fun. Spring breaks, road trips, late night food runs, dance parties, shopping, trips to the nail salon. The list could go on forever because no matter what we do it is fun. Being with you is always a party. Who you are is fun and I love it. When I look back and think about my best times, you are always there.
  3. Thanks for never leaving- Just like when I look at my best times and you are there, when I look back at the worst times you were there too. Once you came into my life you never left. No matter how far life took you away from me, across the street or across the world, you were still a major part of my life. Thanks for being one of the few people that came into my life and didn’t leave it. Thanks for proving me wrong, not everyone leaves.
  4. Thanks for being my biggest supporter- No matter what I am doing you are there cheering me on. Every crazy idea I get and every dream I chase I know that you are there supporting me 100%. When I am ready to throw in the towel because things get tough, you are always there to tell me to keep going.
  5. Thanks for always making sure I look good- You always got my back. Whether it is my outfit or my reputation you always make sure I look good. I can’t begin to count how many snapchats and pictures I have sent you to make sure I look you, and you never fail to reply with your honest opinion. Most of the time your reply is just “dang my best friend is fineeee!”, but you also don’t shy away from telling me to change when my outfit is a little too much. More importantly than my outfits, you make sure me as a person looks good. If you hear someone talking about me, you will defend me. You will brag on me like I am your child. You know the worst there is to know about me, but you will only tell anyone the best.
  6. Thanks for putting up with my crazy- Man there are times when I am down right nuts. I will say crazy things and mean it. I can be crazy off the chain hyper. Or I can be crazy in my feelings. Either way you are right there with me. You will be the first to sing along at the top of your lungs with me. You are also the first to send me tweets about the crap I am going through. You put up with my crazy. Good, bad, and ugly.
  7. Thanks for being my best friend- You are literally the best friend I have ever had. I didn’t know friends like you existed until you came into my life. Thank you for showing me what a best friend is. Dude I have no idea where I would be without you. Love you forever!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
